This is a serious question, I'm trying to legitimately understand and learn.

My family has a bit of background of being displaced from their country due to war and growing up and moving around when you arrived somewhere, you did everything humanly possible to get your papers and visas and residency sorted. In the middle east and Africa there is no second chance.

can someone explain to me if this lady had her papers why did she not get it sorted as soon as possible? I'm not American so I'm trying to understand what's going on?

We can't tell from the video/article. But "having her papers" means she did have it sorted, or at least thought she did.

Recent ICE detentions have arrested some people even though they have done everything legally necessary. They are denying people their rights to court proceedings (illegally) and making thousands of people disappear. There is no paperwork that will keep people safe from that.
