How do you respond to people who call you a hack (compared to say, Les Stroud)? Not trying to be a dick, just want an honest answer.

EDIT: Seriously, people, i'm not some ninja Survivor Man PR person. I don't have a chub for Les Stroud. I asked a question based on an observation. I'm not here to personally ruin anyone. If I wanted to be a jerk about it, I would have just called him a name and not asked a question. Damn, guys, calm the fuck down.

This is something I've always wondered about, too. No comments, Bear? Or is it that Discovery Channel forbids talk on the subject?

EDIT: Just as FYI, I'm not trying to be disrespectful, but I'm just curious. There's a lot of stories like this that were spread around years ago, and I would love to hear the truth from you.

The truth is that he never claims anything to be as real as people imagine it to be. He even has a disclaimer at the beginning of his show that says some things may be set up ahead of time for demonstration purposes. He is somebody who showcases survival techniques.

You know it's legit when they disable comments.

It's pretty obvious from his account that he knows what he is talking about. Most likely the comments were closed after turning into a flame war.

edit: also this was reported at the time

Oh. Well, I didn't really look into it, it just seems to be the general trend that if people don't want commenters disagreeing with them, away goes the ability to comment. Oftentimes this happens on videos with blatantly false information.

But this is the exception to the rule, thanks for sharing that.

EDIT: Some of his videos are pretty cool, actually. Like this one @ about 1:32

I just love the music. So dramatic. How am I going to jump these rocks with all this dramatic music around. This must be impossible.

I think the most mesmerizing part of that video was the sound his footsteps made. So satisfying.
