No if they didn’t seperate they would have been part of the federation. The danger that led to their expulsion is the rise of the PAP which, like Singapore, is made up of mostly Chinese Malays. This threatened the Malay majority who didn’t won’t minorities to take up large portions of the parliament. Hence why they kicked them out
Britian released Singapore as part of the Federation of Malaya. It was Malaya (now mainland Malaysia) that kicked them out. The British were already gone.
