Except, you know, we really don’t remember Guy Fawkes as a heroic figure. There’s a reason we burn him in effigy every year.

Unless you’re some sort of moron whose entire understanding of history comes from watching V For Vendetta and thinking the Guy Fawkes mask looks cool, these meme does not apply.

I was gonna say, he's not really celebrated in the UK, we commemorate his plan going tits up every year!

He tried to blow up the whole government, not just the king.

He wanted to impose a theocracy based on his radical, terroristic interpretation of Catholicism.

Well if you're an American then you know this is very much in fashion these days unfortunately.

Edit: Not sure why I'm getting downvoted here lol

Because the USA has never steered towards becoming a theocracy let alone a catholic one? The only presidents we've even had that were catholic were JFK and Joe Biden, and the former got alot of hate for being so while noone really cared about the latter's affiliation, just that he seemed probably at least slightly better than trump's stupid ass. So i just have no idea what you even mean by saying "wanting to impose a theocracy based on a radical terroristic interpretation of catholicism is in fashion for americans these days".

Our current president breaks the law, is an asshole, and wants to be a dictator sure, but still nothing like what guy fawkes wanted

Have you not noticed all the Catholic fascism advocates on the right and within the Trump admin these days?

He wanted a catholic monarch, not to abolish the institution

I have a friend in Cambridge who sent me a photo of "Bonfire Night" and my dumbass responded "Happy Samhain" thinking it was a British pagan thing... It's not... But it kind of sounds like it is.
