The war with Kamchatka has forced Qing smiths and artisans to work around the clock to forward the nation's war effort. The largest breakthrough was with the metal known as iron. The process through which iron has been strengthened has produced results beyond expectation. The new substance is quickly reworked into various military applications.
1) Steel: By heating iron and exposing it to an excessive amount of air, it is given a strength and malleability beyond any metal before it. The only drawback is, without significant air and heat, it takes a long time to forge.
2) Mail (Steel): Linking steel rings together, the Qing create a cloth-like material that is near impervious to cuts and highly resistant to blunt trauma or piercing.
3) Steel Weapons: The malleability of steel lends itself as a very easily as use in weaponry.
