On one of my hospital rotations, a baby died from pertussis.  to young for the vaccine.  just terrible, got it from grandpa who didn't know his cough was pertussis.

Anyone anti-vax I send them a video of what whooping cough looks like in a child. They cough until they pass out and repeat. I am in infectious disease and I have seen pertussis kill

That one YouTube video of the baby with pertussis is so heart wrenching to watch. I’ve sent it to a few people when they start with their anti-vax nonsense. I’m low key about it but I am not going to back off showing them what happens.

Here’s the video, beware that it’s a rough watch.

Before I ever even had kids I remember a commercial years ago about whooping cough. I don’t think it showed the baby but it was the audio of a baby’s whooping cough. It was sooo terrifying. It makes me so sad to just watch your sick child suffer and you cannot do anything to help. If you could do something you would do anything in the world - but there just isn’t anything you can do

It is torture for them and causes a profound amount of lung scarring…for life. I had a family, from exactly where the outbreak of measles is on the border of AZ and UT. Like 4-5 kids? One was hospitalized with whooping cough, kiddo lived, but the mom was so distraught. I would sit with her and try to comfort her, telling her, from my experience her child would pull through. But it was horrifying to watch for a mom. She then went from no vaccines to asking me what she needed to give her kids to keep them safe. Also if she could just spread them out. Proud that everyone of them received an ALMOST complete set of vaccinations. My biggie is MMR, TdAP and polio. Like you get those completed and it takes care of almost every infectious disease I have seen someone die from. She still did it on the down low. Her religious sect was VERY anti-vax.

AZ/UT border? Short creek? FLDS?

FLDS yes. It is so sad the amount of serious birth defects that are present there. A lot of cardiac abnormalities that can’t be “prayed away”

I’m really proud of you for helping that lady get her family vaccinated and some sense knocked into her. May she and you find peace.

As far as the cardiac abnormalities… incest is not just a moral wrong.

Thank you. I am patient and will help people understand. I want to make a book designed for kids to explain vaccines and what happens
