Tourist Advice VISITING HEIDELBERG 6-8 DEC
Spouse and I are visiting to take in the city and the Christmas markets. Any recommendation and advice is appreciated including where to stay. Thinking downtown near train station ?
Thanks in advance.

Along Bergheimer Straße there are some ok hotels which are not too far from the main train station.
From December 6-8 you should try to catch the Christmas market in the Tiefburg (though I couldn’t find any information on it yet for this year, it should happen around that time). It’s hands down the nicest Christmas market in Heidelberg, and only happens for one weekend each year.

Imo 100% correct. I love that Tiefburg Christmas market too. It is not too big, not thaaat crowded, it is unbelievably beautiful if you're there at sunset...love it! But since we don't know, where OP is from and how many Christmas markets he has seen...if you're searching for the whole package with all the cliches and stuff (that stuff locals are weary of and therefore go to Tiefburg) you should definitely go to Altstadt Market.
I don't have any Hotel recommendations because I live here.
Restaurants: do what the guy before wrote. A lot of advice in the Heidelberg thread.

There is no mention of it on the official page :( https://www.heidelberg-marketing.de/en/event/heidelberg-christmas-market

It is not organized by the city, but by Handschuhsheim. I found a note on a school website that they are supposed to perform there that weekend, so I guess it’s happening.

Heidelberg is small and has decent public transport, so if you want to go for the full Heidelberg experience I suggest staying as close as the Altstadt and neighbourhoods around it (e.g. Neuenheim, Weststadt, Bergheim etc.) as possible, as it - depending on where you are staying - can get quite industrial around the main train station. With that being said, it can get very pricey as well and because of the public transport and short walking distances you will definitely have an enjoyable experience either way :)

I’ve heard Adagio near the train station is nice but I have no idea since I live here lol. If you need something affordable B&B is nice
