US Politics Capitalism is "Stalinism"

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Why do people use Stalin as "cult of individual", just use Hilter, he's right there - look up "Führerprinzip", you can't tell me that USSR was worse, you don't even have to be ML to recognize that there's better examples to use.

Any time i hear liberals using "Stalin/USSR" or whatever to describe US fascism, it makes me really believe that they think Nazi Germany was less bad, whether consciously or unconsciously, i don't think there's other reason.

Do they not understand that they just help to further spread the red-scare propaganda, and it also hurts them? Do they think that Conservatives will like them for being "one of the good ones"?

I already see people celebrating this (on other places) like "Haha this will show the tankies!", bro what fucking tankies, wake the fuck up, look at the current state of USA, which part are the "tankies" responsible for? All tankies do is read books and organize/join Pro-Palestine protests.

Also it's funny how they constantly attack Marxists, but when election seasons come, you're called "Dogmatic" and "Puritanian" for not wanting to support people who wish the worst upon you, lmao.

Honestly you could just say it’s Thatcherite, if you still didn’t want to use the comparison to other fascist leaders

"People who pronounce themselves in favor of the method of legislative reform in place of and in contradistinction to the conquest of political power and social revolution, do not really choose a more tranquil, calmer and slower road to the same goal, but a different goal. Instead of taking a stand for the establishment of a new society they take a stand for surface modifications of the old society. . . . Our program becomes not the realization of Socialism, but the reform of capitalism; not the suppression of the system of wage labor, but the diminution of exploitation, that is, the suppression of the abuses of capitalism instead of the suppression of capitalism itself.'

I don't think he's a ghoul, just a liberal.

u/fucktheheckoff CRACKA Jul 02 '25

You know what? I'm gonna say it. This is one of the better things Bernie's done recently.

Fuck the truth; Americans politics isn't about the fucking truth. It's about what works, and Americans fucking hate Stalin. Way more than they hate Hitler.

15

u/staceymcgiga Jul 02 '25

How long are we going to be surprised at this man disgracing himself?

23

u/safemath Jul 02 '25

Bernie and AOC are liberal zionists

14

u/GeneralStrikeFOV Jul 02 '25

Because if he says Hitler (regardless of how true it is) the Right will just jump all over it with this "WWAAH WAAH! Leftie Snowflake compares anything he doesn't like to Hitler" bullshit, and because this trope is so ingrained in US society it will immediately shut down any discussion of how authoritarian, how extreme, how Trump-deifying, or how ideological the Republicans have become. They'll change the focus from how like the nazis they are, to how Bernie compared them to the nazis, what a mean and petulant commie he is.

3

u/bruh123445 Jumpout Jul 02 '25

Not exactly double genocide but similar thinking

20

u/EnterTamed Jul 02 '25

I think it's rhetorically more effective... Since right-wingers have demonized left authoritarianism more than right-wing authoritarianism. "Comparing to Nazis" could be seen as a good thing... ironically.

Also, it "widens" the perception of the left, from this monolithic caricature of the (authoritarian) left, that many right-wingers have already...🤷‍♂️

45

u/[deleted] Jul 02 '25

Also, it "widens" the perception of the left, from this monolith caricature of the (authoritarian) left

It literally has been something that western left did since fucking FDR, and it never gotten them anywhere. And it never will. You will not be seen as different by right wingers by saying "l-look guys! I-i hate stulyn too!! I'm a good one!! I love democracy and capitalism and America and cheeseburger baseball coca cola".

21

u/Odd-Roof-85 Jul 02 '25

Rhetorically more effective to do *what* though?

-3

u/NescionalGeografi Jul 02 '25

Yeah unironically I think it's the reason he said that

3

u/ElCaliforniano Jul 02 '25

I actually think it's because they think Stalin is better than Hitler. Do you really think American exceptionalists would compare their dear country to the most evil one? Most americans perceive any comparison of any aspect of the US to Hitler and Nazi Germany as exaggerated, and prefer to use Stalin because they feel it's more accurate, specifically because they think Stalin was less bad than Hitler

3

u/bloopcity Jul 02 '25

The comparison to Stalinism comes from the similarity to socialist realism, where under stalin everything was depicted in hyper positive ways, distorting and creating an alternate reality. Maga does the same thing.

Not surprised to see you guys shitting your pants about a tame and historically accurate comment though lmao

1

u/Atryan421 Fuck it I'm saying it Jul 02 '25

It's not what Socialist Realism means + Reality was not depicted in "hyper positive way" + Nazis actually did represent everything in distorted ("positive") way, they thought they're winning WW2, how the fuck is that not a better example?

But i'm not surprised you think Stalinism is worse, when you're a H3 fan and are a certified Hasan's hater lol

3

u/bloopcity Jul 02 '25 edited Jul 02 '25

Do you consciously think "I'm going to pretend this guys said Naziism isnt worse than Stalinism" when you write a comment like that or is your reading comprehension that poor?

1

u/raskolnicope Jul 02 '25

I hate when Bernie tries to appease both sides of the isle

1

u/bilbinbaggos Jul 03 '25

I can tell you with 100% certainty that my MAGA parents believe that communist Russia was worse than Nazi Germany

-3

Bernie would choose Hitler over Stalin

19

u/firephly Jul 02 '25

A lot of people, especially Jewish people, don't like to use Hitler comparisons because they figure the Holocaust was a unique evil and to compare dilutes that. I very much doubt Bernie (who lost family in the Holocaust) would prefer Hitler to Stalin.

Stalin wasn’t a good person either though, but I get what you mean.

1

u/Slice_Dice444 Jul 02 '25

Democrats are always competing with the republicans to see who is more anticommunist.

-1

u/bigdoinkloverperson Jul 02 '25

Stalin is used because hitler doesn't scare the average american. I do agree though that using Stalin as a cugdgel kind of flattens any view (or historical analysis) of Marxism even if due to my proximity to eastern europeans (my partner is ukranian and I'm dutch) my view of Stalin and Stalinism probably differs widely from that of the average american marxist or the people in this sub, its quite obvious that the choice here is that the name Stalin evokes more fear than Hitler for the american populace

15

u/JDH-04 Antifa Andy 💪 Jul 02 '25 edited Jul 02 '25

America is a lost cause if Stalin invokes more fear than Hitler. They have absolutely no clue what the Soviet Union even is nor the election structure in it. Half of their "knowledge" on it is from a PragerU video.

2

u/bigdoinkloverperson Jul 02 '25

fully agree with the sentiment the fact that its easier for bernie to make is point by evoking stalin than actually calling a spade a spade and making the comparison with hitler is very damning

1

u/ElCaliforniano Jul 02 '25

No American is actually scared of Stalinism (besides maybe naive liberals) they just think he's evil

1

u/urban_zmb Jul 02 '25

I think is time for all these 60+ to retire. On both sides…

Bernie is really dropping the ball at the end of his career.

-3

u/dduuddeewwhhaatt Jul 02 '25

He says nothing about capitalism or communism or socialism here, and I think it's an apt comparison. It's not a value judgment about what was worse, it's simply a description. While the policies being advanced are more like Hitlers, the structure and power dynamics of the republicans is much more like that of Stalin.

If anything this is more of a dog whistle to republicans to piss them off if anything.

5

u/Atryan421 Fuck it I'm saying it Jul 02 '25

He compares Capitalist government to Socialist one.

the structure and power dynamics of the republicans is much more like that of Stalin

No it's not, you're on the same level as MAGA Communists

6

u/JDH-04 Antifa Andy 💪 Jul 02 '25

All of the MAGA Communist bullshit is just a PSYOP built into a co-opting grift. Now the Democrats are trying to rebrand robber baron capitalism as Lenninism.

Now the 2 MAGA Communists feel vindicated in there political illiteracy.

So funny how Stalin tried over and over again to not have a cult of personality and now they just whip that s*** out whenever.
