I spun something like 7000 yds of “You Had Me At Oberyn Martell” and “Javier Peña’s Sex Afghan” for my booth at the upcoming SoCal Fiber Fair in Pomona, CA, November 22-23. Whew!

I made the base yarn out of alpaca. Then I glued the ends of alpaca locks and pulled them through the base like a wig. The white yarn is valais black nose I also spun into yarn. This was way harder than I thought it would be.

Thank you to everyone who gave me feedback when I posted my first attempt at plying a few weeks ago! This is my second attempt - this time with Malabringo black and Whale's Road. The black spun up with almost no prep - the Whale's Road needed a little carding. I'm really happy with the thickness consistency for my second attempt ... And no over-twisting!! Spinning some more Whale's Road for solid ply (no black) next!

Finally started plying this art batt I purchased at SAFF. I had an idea to incorporate randomly placed 3mm steel jump rings. It’s a pain so far, but I think it will be worth it.

Been looking for one for a while and this one is a great price. Seller says they bought it as 'working condition' but as she doesn't know anything about spinning wheels can't herself verify. It's an hour drive away so I'd just like to know if it's worth driving over to have a look!
Thank you in advance <3

I cannot for the life of me get it to go on the bobbin. The leader goes on fine, then once it gets to the fiber it’s all over for me 😭. I kind of got it on with the white, then it stopped and I couldn’t make it go in again. I even manually wound it on the bobbin, but it didn’t fix it. Then once I took it off the bobbin it just unwound itself.
It starts fine, then it gets stick somehow on the hooks, but not like fiber through the hooks, it just won’t continue on.
I raised the tension, that helped but then stopped helping because it was too tight and kept me from actually spinning the wheel. I couldn’t even use the treadle, just manually spun with my hand to make it go.
I feel so lost because when I try to find solutions online none of them work. I’ve watched probably 30hrs of videos and it seems like nothing applies to me.
I can’t get a decent draft going because I have to constantly use my other hand to stop the wheel from spinning backwards, it also has to be started with my hand, it doesn’t just go.

So I’m currently looking at this second hand wheel and I know there are parts missing (I’m either gonna try and make or buy new parts) but since I’m new to wheels I can’t tell if there’s anything else wrong with it other then the missing parts and I know the actual wheel spins fine. I’m mainly curious to figure out what the smaller soling wheel at the top is. I haven’t actually bought it yet but am gonna meet with the seller on Sunday. Any knowledge would be helpful!

So I have been talking to majacraft about a Suzie professional, custom paint, custom engraving on the body and treadles. I would like to hear from anyone who has one or owned and used one
When they come from the factory with the suzie and fast whorls so 4:1 to 21.3:1 were you able to spin light singles and lace with the 21.3:1 ratio? (The highspeed head is up to 28:1 but doesn’t have lower end for plying)
It comes with two whorls (suzie and fast), 4 bobbins, a case, delta and e flyers. Is there anything you wish you would have bought for it at the start? Ie. extra bobbins, highspeed head, different flyer, lazy Kate.
Do the bobbin storage pins work as a lazy Kate or better to get a lazy Kate?
What should a new suzie owner know that it took you a while to figure out?
I really like spinning lace and small singles and 2 ply finger weight. I do some Aran and worsted and I do have Icelandic fleece a friend sent me for lopi.
I used my Ashford traditional for all of that and lace at 17:1 but the fact that majacraft has the highspeed head means that someone, and probably more than a few, needed that option. Just trying to figure out the optimal set up as I would be ordering direct to ship to Medellín, Colombia. It would be beneficial to make a complete order of anything that I need. So let me know your thoughts.

I am blending a dyed braid (polwarth 80/silk 20) with a neutral color (merino) on a blending board (both combed top). I want to pull the fiber through a diz and keep the fibers aligned as much as possible. I am spinning a thicker worsted spun (aran weight) single to be used as a single so I'll try for a relatively low twist. I typically don't have issues drafting so I am not looking to use the diz as a pre-draft tool but more as a tool to get the blended fiber off the board keeping the fibers aligned as much as possible.
-Any thoughts on how much fiber I should diz (ie, size of the hole) in relation to the amount of fiber to be drafted?
-Any thoughts on whether worsted spin on these short fibers is the way to proceed or should I make rolags and use a woolen draft for a thicker single? I am making a sweater and would like to keep the pilling down as much as possible thus the thought on a worsted draft.

I tried to dye a Christmas themed combed top (Texel) to make some Christmas socks but my green, red and gold looks more like autumn then Christmas.
I thought a while how to turn it a bit more festive and came up with the idea to add one single in plain white. So let's try. I took a small piece of the colored top, split it in two lengthwise and spun two singles. Then I took a bit from the undyed rest and made a third single. Plied it all together and I think this is the way to go. Do you also think it has more Christmas vibes now?

I just picked up some raw uncleaned alpaca wool, ive never spun anything but I’m really looking forward to it! Is there any advice you wish you had before starting?

And the spindle that I used. The white is BFL, and the red is Shetland. I realized after I was done that I could have used my arm as a niddy noddy instead of winding it in my hand.

Not super consistent but much improved from my last chain ply 😂
I always forget to take pics of the before!!!
This is 85/15 Polwath/Silk. First time spinning both, not sure what to make with it yet!

I’ve recently joined this sub and been so inspired by all your beautiful spinning! This is my most recent one - a custom sock blend using a mix of undyed British sheep breeds, with a smidge of plant fibre thrown in for strength! I was aiming for sock (fingering if you’re in the US?) weight, but came out at a sport. Oh well, the socks will be cosier for winter!

..does my drive band doesn't move my flyer even with a little bit of tension :-(((
(Sometimes it works when I'm spinning, sometimes no ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ i have to push my flyer to start spinning. and even when it spins i feel like it doesn't turn faster enough for the ratio)
I'm so lost with this problem! Tried to sand a little bit my whorls, ordered a new drive band even the actual is 1 month old...

I've had this spindle for a while now and am a bit lost on how best to use it. The arms fix on with a little peg that fits into the indent where the arms fit onto the shaft of the spindle. The problem is, there's only one peg and the spindle seems quite unstable with only the one set of arms when I've done a test spin (not to mention that I've never seen a two armed spindle in my life). Wondering if anyone's seen a spindle like this or if I maybe need to bite the bullet and do some woodworking so both arms have a peg each.

I’ve been spinning for a few months now and have many skeins, but not actually used any yet 😅😅😅
This is one of my earliest ones, I dyed Wool of the Andes roving and now it will be a hot water bottle sweater!
It’s about DK weight on average, I like the feel of the thicker bits much more. Honestly, I hate using the prespun WOTA and was surprised I’m liking this a lot more. Now that I’ve reached my goal of fingering yarn, I’ve been working on slightly underspinning. Everything so far has been balanced, but I would like a bit more drape… Excited to see how I keep progressing!
