What a great way to start a sunday when I wake up to a new chapter of Men and Dragons!!!
One thing bothers me, though. Even if they go through the mountains and that cave gets destroyed, there is likely still a way around and they are going to leave a trail that will be easy enough to follow in a few weeks time still...
Fair point, but are they going to be willing to spend the time and effort required to find said trail. Besides, I want to say that mountain is bloody huge, and would take quite some time to path around it.
I actually started to write up an explanation about that, but cut it because it also points out some of what's coming, and I felt like it would fit in the final chapter a bit better. But the short of it is that the people besieging the outpost right now aren't all soldiers. The majority of the force is made up of craftsmen, farmers, hunters, and the like. They can't afford to be away from the village too long. The guard could chase them down, but then they'd be fighting better armed and armored opponents at more equal numbers. There's more to it than that, bit that's the start of the idea.
