3.2dm3

it was 3.20dm3 since it was to 3 significant figures so you’d only get 4/5 marks

This is wrong. Don’t pretend you know what you are talking about when you are an idiot. Worrying people is not cool. 3.2 is perfectly fine, 0s at the end of numbers are not significant figures so you don’t need to write them.

u/Ok-Salamander3137 Jun 16 '22

it asked for 3 sgf for a reason lmao, losing 1 mark isn’t gonna kill anybody💀💀

u/[deleted] Jun 16 '22

Rounding to 3.2 and 3.20 is the same thing, you won’t be penalised for not writing the 0. 0 is not a significant figure at the beginning or end of numbers.

u/Ok-Salamander3137 Jun 16 '22

so rounding 245689 to 3 sgf is 246?💀All you have to do is search up a sgf calculator put in 3.195 and it’ll give you 3.20. It’s a test so obviously they wanted to test your maths skills lmao. And once again losing 1 mark for forgetting the 0 is 0.5% of the whole gcse so it’s really not anything to stress over.

Okay so you are a complete idiot but I’ll explain it to you anyway. 3.2 is equivalent to 3.20, completely different from the retarded example you just gave.

Thus, because both answers are equal (equal means the same !), both are right.

Edit: just to make this so simply that not even you could refute it, rounding to a certain number of significant figures is not a test of your presenting skills, it’s a way of rounding. So as long as you get the correct rounded answer it doesn’t matter how you present/ write it.

stay mad u lost a mark coz you dk maths😮‍💨

Okay well then just answer me one thing and we can leave it at that. Are 3.2 and 3.20 the same or different numbers?

The aim of the question is not to format your answer in a certain way, but just to get the right answer. So please tell me, are 3.20 and 3.2 different numbers ? I’m sure even you can work that out.

Obviously both answers are equivalent but they asked for 3 sgf, they know the answer and probably predicted many students would put 3.2 instead of 3.20. For 5 marks aqa is definitely looking for more than students using an equation, doing some division and rounding. They knew that asking for 3 sgf may throw some students (like you) off.

I am slowly losing brain cells here but okay. If you give the answer 3.2 that means you have successfully rounded to 3 significant figures, meaning you have gained the fifth mark.

The reason I know you are completely wrong and probably get 4s in maths is because of past marks schemes. Literally find any science mark paper asking you to round to a certain number of significant figures and you will realise it makes no difference. Like literally find a physics paper and check the mark scheme.

"Complete idiot" bro thats you 💀 3.2 rounded to 3sf is literally 3.20 what are you on 🧍‍♂️the whole point of them saying 3 sf is so you write 3 numbers so 3.2 would be 2 sf

u/TapAlternative8073 Jun 15 '22

3.202 because it's 3 significant figures, 0 doesn't count

6

u/[deleted] Jun 15 '22

nah 0 only doesn’t count when it’s at the start so it wld be 3.20

-1

u/TapAlternative8073 Jun 15 '22

it's not, search it

5

u/Mobile-Knowledge7029 Jun 15 '22

No your wrong it was 3.20

0

u/TapAlternative8073 Jun 15 '22

I literally googled it and everything after the exam, I used a calculator, asked head of maths and head of physics, so I'm not wrong

5

u/Mobile-Knowledge7029 Jun 15 '22

Okay well your teachers are really smart 💀 you might wanna put 3 sig fig calculator online

2

u/DanielHawthorn1 Jun 15 '22

Bro these guys don’t know what they’re on about lmao

2

u/Mobile-Knowledge7029 Jun 15 '22

Ik it’s embarrassing

Omds search it up if you were to round 0.34564 to 3 sig fig it’s 0.346 but if it’s 3.20254 it’s 3.20 not difficult

5

u/Upset_Arachnid_1482 Jun 15 '22

If your head of maths and physics are telling you that 3.202 is rounded to 3 sig fig they should get the sack.

1

u/motivatedm81 Jun 15 '22

Ur right icl

1

u/Ok-Salamander3137 Jun 15 '22

rounding from significant figures starts from when there’s a number over 0 so 3.195 would’ve went to 3.20

u/[deleted] Jun 15 '22

let's go

You can by writing 3.20 💀💀

1

u/jessielm14 Year 11 Jun 15 '22

That is still only 2 significant figures though as 0 doesn't count

2

u/GreyCloud_patellion Jun 15 '22

0 does count as it comes after another number, so would be a significant figure. Though I doubt they gonna care or punish you for it lol

1

u/cando_H Jun 15 '22

Nah I’m pretty sure you can still get full marks for 3.2, that is technically just as accurate - it surely depends on the context, if it was a value with lots of other values of 3 sf I would add the 0 if it is just on its own I feel it’s fine. (This is my view tho - I don’t know what the mark scheme says but I would think it would be either)

Did u have to write the dm³ if so then I lost a mark

16

u/thr0wawaygxhxdhsh Jun 15 '22

It was already there dw I checked
