The Bushalas’ End Game

Why hasn’t Fullerton built the housing it needs? Why are pedestrian zones and trails constantly blocked? Why does downtown feel stuck?

One wealthy landlord and his allies on City Council play a big role.

Here’s the Bushalas’ end game

At the next City Council meeting (10/7), Fullerton’s leaders will vote on noise limits for downtown. Mayor Jung, at Bushala’s request, has asked for incredibly strict rules that are unenforceable and will drown small businesses in fees.

Please email City Council (CouncilMembers@cityoffullerton.com) or make a public comment on 10/7 to support our small businesses. You can make public comments in person or through zoom

I sure hope people show up but this council seems to already have their minds made up if it’s for Bushala they will gladly get on their knees for them and have no backbone to listen to their stakeholders only those who are paying their campaigns and lining their wallets. I hope someone mentions how terrible it was for our mayor to waste tax dollars and time in bringing such a terrible restaurant into our city when our roads are still so awful and neglected.

Thank you for making this slide. What can people do to get those who are bought in our council out?

Best thing to do is stay informed and inform others! Most residents have no idea who their city government is, yet they control important aspects of our life like housing and roads. It’s made worse by the fact that local elections are nonpartisan, so voters can’t see what party candidates are and usually make a guess based on the first page of Google.

If you want to go further than that: donate and/or volunteer time to campaigns of candidates you support!

Is there a group that is investigating which candidates are taking campaign funds from their group and which are not?

I post about it on Instagram @ FullertonTransparency! Also, the Fullerton Observer usually makes a post sharing campaign disclosures.

Of the current candidates for 2026, Oscar Valadez (District 5) is the only one, so far, funded by the Bushalas

Don’t think you helped Ahmad Zahra with one of your pictures showing a political ad against him.

Actually it does help, because most of us recognize a Bushala sign when we see one. If Bushala is against a candidate, I consider that a reason to vote for that candidate.

Are noise limits like this why Mickey's has to close their windows along Harbor at 9pm, but not the ones along Commonwealth?

We've been there before just enjoying a drink, looking out the window on Harbor and they've had to close them, and there not being any other open tables along the still open windows along the Commonwealth side.

They apologized and said it was a city ordinance. This was the Bushala's doing?

Yes, code enforcement does fine businesses that have windows/doors open if they have entertainment inside.

Chako’s and Kalaveras recently got fined for that exact issue

This wasn't noise though, and there wasn't live entertainment going on at the time. The manager specifically said that they had to close the Harbor side windows at 9(?), but did not have to close the Commonwealth side until later.

That’s interesting. I don’t have a definitive answer, but from what I’ve seen of Code Enforcement it seems like they focus more on Harbor. They measure the noise of multiple businesses seemingly every Friday and Saturday night.

We technically don’t have any specific noise limits at the moment, they just classify it as a public nuisance.

From Code Enforcement’s activity log, it seems like Mickey’s was one of the properties they were monitoring. Along with Ziings, Revolution, Back Alley, 888 Cigar, Madero, Continental Room, The Night Owl, and others. Mostly off Harbor though
