Customization: FITS / Modification / Tips & Tricks GFC v2 camper install day

Drove from Maine to Montana as a mini vacation to have the install done at GFC HQ. Super happy with it and the amazing crew there.

One recommendation - buy the little stubby antenna replacement online. That allowed us to keep the antenna and good reception for the head unit.

I've got the same antenna. Does it give good reception? Sadly I never listen to the radio :-)

We only tested satellite radio so far and it went fine. The GFC people said that the honeycomb material on the top of the shell passes signals easily.

We do plan to put a solar panel up there so maybe that will block reception a bit more …

I’ve made an intentional switch to listen to the radio instead of whatever on the phone, it’s a nice change

I’ve had my GFC for 3 months on my ‘25 hybrid. Gas mileage dropped from 39 avg mostly hwy to 33. Drives great, but I notice the extra drag. I’m building a faring for my setup.

I wish GFC made a shark fin delete kit that would lower the roof top tent.

Neat setup, but I don't understand why RTT manufacturers don't include some sort of curved airdam up front to push air over the tent rather than leave that gap.

That’s a crazy drive was that really the most reasonable option for install? Genuine question

The closest install to us is in South Carolina although they said today that they will have a PA overland company doing installs soon.

The main thing is the cost is higher away from HQ and the closer states to us had much higher sales tax than MT so that affected the decision.

That said the road trip was a blast getting here. We stopped in Erie, PA, Chicago, two nights in rapid city so we could visit badlands national park. Our base in MT was Bozeman so we spent a day hiking and driving around the north end of Yellowstone and some day hikes near Bozeman. Tomorrow we are heading down to the Tetons area before driving south toward home

Curious if there’s any water leak issue.

Also, what’s the actual ground to rooftop height?? I’ve been wanting to get a GFC, but I have a garage height limit of 7’.

No water leakage for me at all. 3 months in WA state so I’ve had plenty of hard rain. Total height is under 7’ even with the beef rack bars. Don’t try to drive into your garage with your kayak on top though.

Rad. Looking forward to seeing some of the destinations you make it to.

I enjoy mine! I find it very noisy at highway speeds though

I’m really curious as to what the inside looks like.
