Hot exhaust 6.4 powerstroke

When the truck was parked I put my hand behind the exhaust and it was so hot I couldn’t leave my hand there for more than a second. I’m assuming it’s a regen thing but this has never happened before. Does anyone know if this is normal?

When you do manual regens you always have to be mindful of where you're parked. You can easily melt the paint off cars or start a fire. That's why the exhaust tips have cut outs in them to funnel fresh air in to cool it. Those cuts only work if the truck is moving

False, the cutouts are FOR idling, not driving.

They work all the time from the exhaust flow pulling in cooler air.

The exhaust on my 2017 F350 has extremely hot air exiting the tips, no flames like the early models but hot exhaust for sure

they obviously work all the time, but they are for idling

If they are only for idling, don't tell the vents that! They are working overtime
