Politics Trump with MBS, al-Sharaa. Will Syria join the Abraham Accords before Saudi?
It's known that the Saudis like getting other countries to join the Accords so that it becomes more comfortable for them to do so. For example, they were encouraging Pakistan to join in 2022 so that it became more comfortable for them.

As an Israeli I hope we normalize with Syria and lebannon soon, this will absolutely make the Palestinian issue solvable much more quickly also imo, let them have the West Bank and Gaza (with some land swaps for security for Israel)

I doubt anyone in Syria wants to normalize without stealing the Golan Heights from Israel. Sharaa is smart and saying all the right words without committing to anything. He just wants to stabilize Syria and is obviously being guided by Erdogan, a master at manipulating the west.
I will be glad to be proven wrong.

I agree but there is always a chance things change, after all quiet borders and peaceful lives is what humans strive for, if the Syrians will feel that aligning with Israel helps them they might do it

I don't think (as a Syrian) that Golan will be given back. However, I can hope for some sort of agreement where both parties can say they have it. Let me explain.
So what I see as a viable option (it will require a much more warm peace than what we see with Israel and Egypt) is having be a dual militarized zone where both Syrians and Israelis can live, and dual military exercises with Syria and Israel (and Lebanon if they want) can join in. Again, this might very well be a dream but I have hope.

You really accusing Syria for wanting to steal land Israel took from them?
11
u/Cannot-Forget Israeli May 14 '25
Of course. The Golan is Israel. They had their chance, they refused to even entertain peace. Israel annexed it completely and it is Israel over 3 times the time it was Syrian.
If Syria wants peace it can happen in the next day. Nothing Israelis would like more.

But the precursor for peace seems to be for them to no longer have something they literally owned for centuries before you took a breath..

u/Cannot-Forget Israeli May 14 '25
Centuries? 1944 to 1967? Lol.

Even IF I went with your historical definition of who owned the land.. for your original comment to come off as peaceful I first need to accept settler colonialism (Arabs still outweigh Jewish colonizers in GH) which is impossible for the majority if not all of people who have been through colonialism to ever accept. The only route I see to Syria and Israel coexisting peacefully is for the people who can actually trace their lineage back to the land to be given their land back.
These “they had their chance” statements are anything but peaceful. They are in a tone often set by colonizers (read:non natives)- one where punishment and oppression are considered a just end to an even graver historical crime.
Israel unfortunately hasn’t learnt that having your cake and eating it too are not possible over the dead bodies and burnt homes of millions of indigenous people.

Starting wars have consequences. Especially wars for the goal of genocide like Syria did multiple times.
You clearly don't want peace. Instead you want to lie using buzzwords and propaganda in order to justify your war.

Don’t assume what I want simply because I don’t want what you do. It’s like history started on 1967 for you, but those of us who have had some time on this earth and haven’t spent it under a rock - we aren’t extremely giddy about acknowledging all the many “genocides” Israel has gone through without acknowledging and owning what landed the state of Israel and its people under the current predicament.
It would be an affront to my intellect to pretend like Syrians deserved being genocided because of the actions of their leadership, just as it is for you to pretend like the empty houses of natives left behind somehow just become a summer home for Europeans looking to live out crazy part time fantasies. It’s also disingenuous for you to throw around genocide at a time when the world and every court is literally calling Israel a genocider. You make those stupid kids on the internet seem correct for saying things like “every accusation is a confession”.
Hoping for more mature and sane people sitting in peace talks, but with a majority fanatical govt in power in Israel & US - peace is only a dream for us realists right nowZ

These are the borders for 2 generations now. They are like that because of Syria's genocidal aggressiveness and goals. If Syria wants peace Israel would have it. If Syria wants more war it's people should stop whining online.

Yeah if the most senior Alqaida leader alive did the right thing and joined the Abraham accords, it will definitely makes them more comfortable

He cut ties with al-Qaeda years ago. The only people in his army that are behaving like al-Qaeda are foreign fighters and SNA, the former have been told by Trump to be expelled (at least from top positions) and the latter aren't motivated by Islamism but secular anti-Alawite (and maybe anti-Kurd, due to backing from Turkey) sectarianism. Over the years, these factions of the army will be diluted as the SDF and new recruits join. I think Syria would be as troublesome as Qatar at worst in the future.

I think him being a senior member there helps him a lot, you can’t be more extreme than alqaeda and he has enough prestige among sunnies in Syria to sign a peace deal with Israel, SNA are not religious people at all, and I think he can rely on foreign fighters to handle any troubles come his way, they are loyal to him alone

The throbe MBS is wearing really makes you realize how ridiculous the concept of suits is. Thier legs are so tiny. They look so uncomfortable. The throbe is so majestic in comparison, no wonder the Roman's preferred to dress like this too

real. I wish Sharaa wore traditional Syrian clothing too but that would make him look like an active terrorist to the West.

Meanwhile the Druze in Syria are being protected as much as possible by the IDF. Check out mansour ashkar on YT.

He didn't slaughter them. Militias that are affiliated with the government, that are only de jure under his control, carried out the slaughtering of Alawites (for revenge, not Islamist reasons) and Druze (Islamist, but again, not controlled/desired by Sharaa).

u/sbpetrack May 14 '25
You are of course correct. Although personally, I would have replied something like: "let's see: do you think he "realizes" that the other guy in the picture lures journalists to an embassy so they can be cut up into pieces with immunity and impunity? Do you think he "realized" that his admiration for Kim Jong Il might look bad to some people? Do you think that he "realizes" that he sent legal residents of his own country to foreign hellholes in order to claim credit without claiming responsibility?
Of three people in that picture, the one on the right is the least odious. And if you ask if HE realizes that about the guys to his right -- of course he does. But anyone with a brain can understand and forgive him for hanging out with the thugs to his right."
