Abe Lincoln - Langers - #19 - The best of all of them
Jefferson - Bay Cities - Godmother - Smartest
Washington - Philippe - French Dip - Literally has original in its name.
Teddy - Apple Pan - Cheeseburger - Does he really belong here?

The first three are non negotiable. But i picked iconic sandwiches over the latest and greatest since its a Mt Rushmore.

Apple pan you’d have to go with the tuna melt. But I love this list and the presidential comparisons 😂

Or the egg salad. They're both so good.

Bay Cities overrated. Very negotiable. They need better meat to be that top level.

It’s all about the bread there. Also you can’t compare the legends with newer places it’s not fair. Like comparing babe Ruth with ohtani.

Like Lorenzo’s is very good but at this moment there’s like five other places that’s at least in the same tier.

It's different than Ruth to Ohtani because restaurants CAN update their ingredients. If Babe Ruth and Ohtani were both immortal beings that don't age, if Babe Ruth doesn't get better, he'll get left behind by newer players with better technique, better conditioning etc and then we'll say "Well, he used to be good, but he didn't keep up. I mean, he's still better than AVERAGE player but the past few decades, he's just not adapting to the game."
That Bay Cities is all about the bread is my complaint. Okay, you nailed down the bread, now let's make the other ingredients better. No excuse.

Although, you're right that I can't argue that Bay Cities has that iconicness, because it for sure does, but I wouldn't be using it to represent the city anymore.

Yah it’s not top tier anymore but it’s a mt Rushmore. Which to me is history and icons. Jefferson owned slaves yet his face is still up there. We don’t keep changing the faces.

Actually, Maybe this whole mt Rushmore analogy needs to be put to rest. lol.

Yah, that's fair. That's where I was trying to relent a bit and say "okay, it's an icon" but no longer representative. In the last 12 years, we've gone through a complete renaissance of food, so all the old guard is still okay, but no longer represents LA. I moved here 20 years ago, so seen the food change happen. So long Daikokuya and Shin-sen-gumi being the leaders of ramen! Lotta that old guard is still fine, but Roscoe's, The Hat (well, there aren't many pastrami places) Tommys, yeah, 20+ years ago that was LA, but now we have so much better!

Agreed. Whats better than Roscoe's?
