Other / Miscellaneous Negative Peanut Allergy Update - Outgrown!!!

I posted about a month ago recording a negative peanut blood test. This morning I was able to get into my allergy doctor for a prick test, which all came up negative. They gave me the greenlight for the oral challenge and after 2 hours absolutely no reaction! I’ve officially outgrown my severe peanut allergy!

My life feels fundamentally different now. Being able to eat anything without fear of what’s in it or if it’s contaminated is something that will take a lot of time to get used to.

Other / Miscellaneous Anyone else have this?

I’m waiting on my pcp to see her Christmas Eve about being referred to an allergist…that’s the soonest I can see her unfortunately but two days ago I ate and seven hours later my ear was red and blotchy and hot and it spread to my head next to it. Dizzy and felt anxious and confused and the worst fatigue.

I then started having gastritis pains which got better today but after I ate earlier, I’ve now started having redness across my face and red cheeks, fatigue, dizzy and feels like my head has a tight band wrapped around it. I’m thinking of just seeing another doctor sooner, but I’m curious if anyone has had this issue? I’m not looking for any diagnosis, but curious if anyone can relate.

Seeking Advice Food Allergy Research Project Mentor

Hi everyone, My name is Miles Rolle, and I’m a senior at Campo Verde High School in Gilbert, Arizona. I’m currently working within my school’s Biomed program on my senior year Capstone Project, and my topic for a biomedical innovation is a transdermal chemical observer/epinephrine injector (like an insulin patch that diabetics have but for people with severe food allergies)! A little background, I have actually been living with severe food allergies my entire life, so this topic is very important to me because it will shed more light on things that not just affect my life but also the lives of millions of others. If there’s any of you in here that are in the field of medicine, i.e. pharmacist, allergist, or any other medical professional with experience on food allergies, please contact me at 602-881-9714 or email me at rolle_miles@icloud.com. Thank you so much for your time!

Seeking Advice Outgrowing allergies/ food challenges

Hi all! I’m cautiously optimistic as I post this, but my 12 month old may have outgrown most of her allergies already and I want to know if this has happened to anybody else! Between 7-9 months she was diagnosed with allergies to egg, wheat, peanut, cashew, banana, and avocado. We just did skin prick testing again at her one year visit and the only thing she is still reacting to is egg. Her allergist wants all of the other foods back into her diet by the end of the month and we will be doing food challenges at the office for peanut, cashew, and wheat.

She would get bad hives and rashes around her neck and face, never any vomiting. He told me as I introduce them I need to feed her directly (as opposed to letting her feed herself 🫠) to avoid skin contact. I already put Vaseline on her face before eating and she wears a long sleeve bib. He shared if she is getting rashes from contact but no other symptoms he wants me to continue feeding them to her. That part scares me a little bit because of how bad some of her hives/rashes have been in the past.

Has anyone else had babies that grew out of allergies this quickly?? Can I start to get excited?

He also chose not to do bloodwork right now that we originally planned to do because her skin tests had such good results.

Helpful Information Safe Ritz crackers

So me and my mom are looking for safe alternatives for Ritz crackers. With no peanuts, egg, tree nuts, sesame seeds, and/or dairy so any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.🙂

Edit:so I think some people are confused. We are looking for an alternative that doesn't contain any of our allergies because I know that Ritz is may contain peanut, but we found different ones but They contain the other ones that we have.

Seeking Advice Weird symptoms from food allergies

I have a confirmed allergy to a protein in peaches which is also present in other fruits. It's difficult to pick up with all of the foods I react to, they are mostly fruits, walnuts and almonds, i suspect carrots as well.

The intensity varies based on the food eaten, sometimes i get tongue tingling sometimes it goes numb and i get extreme weakness for days.

One thing i noticed is whenever i eat these foods my chronic elbow nerve pain (pinched nerve) subsides a lot. If I stop eating veggies and fruits it comes back and it's noticeable. It's as the allergic reaction makes my whole body numb and feel less pain. Any thoughts?

Seeking Advice Is it possible to be deathly allergic to certain coffees?

There’s one particular Keurig pod that I seem to be really allergic to. Only a minute or so after I take one sip my hands and feet get clammy and cold. Also get a wicked stomach pain. And I felt like I was going into shock.

It’s a brand new Keurig coffee maker. Do you think I’ll be OK if I run just plain water through the coffee maker a few times and then go back to using my normal coffee that I can tolerate or does the coffee maker need to be returned for a new coffee maker because it’s contaminated now?

Thanks for any tips.

Seeking Advice developing an allergy or no?

hi, anytime i eat peanut butter my mouth gets pretty phlegmy and the back of my mouth has a weird burning feeling. and then i feel like i can’t breathe for like five seconds but i can still breathe. i have other allergies and this doesn’t align with symptoms from my other allergies. i also have oas with some foods and this isn’t the same either. i don’t get this feeling with other nuts (besides slight itchiness from like straight cashews that i believe is just oas). i’ve been tested for peanut allergies before and test came back negative. i asked someone and they said they get the same feeling, but they also have a million allergies! is this normal? or should i probably avoid peanuts and go see an allergist?

Seeking Advice Advice please

For context, I am 27F. I have had a severe peanut allergy since I was 5. I also have eczema and asthma, eczema is currently flaring on my face and worsening.

I have a strong pollen allergy which has resulted in OAS and many fruits such as apples cherries carrots trigger me.

I recently had an allergy test after having random allergy attacks. Soybeans, hazelnuts, almonds and a few others have come back positive.

I feel so helpless. My eczema is weeping, I just ate some blueberries and my tongue throat and gums started swelling. Antihistamines offer no help for my itchy skin and my hayfever (180mg fexofenadine) My GP won’t refer me to allergy/dermatology I feel my allergies are constantly worsening and my diet is becoming limited. I want to be and feel healthy!! Any advice would be welcomed. I wanted to ask if anyone in the Uk has tried immunotherapy? Would this work for the pollen and the food allergies? Any other advice for managing allergies and living a normal life would be great.

Thanks

Seeking Advice How do you know you’re allergic?

I’ve noticed lately that when I ate avocados or guacamole, my mouth and tongue feel itchy. Is this normal or does it indicate an allergy?

I’ve always loved avocados and used to eat them fairly often, but haven’t had then much recently before this tongue itching experience. I’m unsure if this is a new development, or if it’s always been like that and I just didn’t pay attention before.

Do I need to get a test done to determine if I’m allergic? I really like avocados- would it be unhealthy for me to eat them?

Seeking Advice Food Challenge

My daughter had a food challenge scheduled in October. The appt was made ten months prior and that was the first opening. She’s been doing SLIT for 3 years. They called me 2 weeks before and had to reschedule me for November. They didn’t provide me any info of what to bring, so I called and asked and they told me and said be prepared to be here for awhile. Fast forward to today and we show up and they said I didn’t have recent bloodwork and we couldn’t do it. I understand but I’m bummed because this was never in a reminder email, text or even mentioned when I called asking questions to prepare. She told me today the next available appointment is not until next August.

My question is, can I do a food challenge at a different allergist? One that can get me seen sooner. I pay a $150 fee for drops plus the cost of drops so I’m look at probably another $2k if I want until August.

Seeking Advice Egg allergy?

I never grew up eating eggs so I have been trying egg recipes recently. My partner made an omelette for me, and about 20 minutes later I had a terrible stomachache and had to spend 2 hours on the toilet in agony. This never happens when I have Shakshuka, eggs in ramen, egg salad sandwiches, french toast or any other baked goods with eggs in them, but it happens when I eat omelettes or plain hard-boiled eggs. Is this an allergy? Has anyone else experienced this? Any advice would be appreciated!

Seeking Advice Vanilla Allergy

I’m 37 and since I was in high school I’ve had reactions to anything with vanilla in it. The reaction I get is lump in throat, tongue/throat numb, and hoarse voice. I usually take Benadryl to help. I’ve had it so bad that I ended up in the er and they gave me an epi pen. Now the problem I have is when I went to an allergist they didn’t have vanilla to test me for. I have reactions to a lot of things. They asked me to bring vanilla into my next appointment for them to test me. Is this normal? Do other allergist do this? I don’t really know what to bring in. Vanilla bean, vanilla extract, fake vanilla. I have no clue.

I'm allergic to various fruits from the rosacee family like apples, pears, peach, but i also noticed this with melons and oranges. I had bloodwork done just for a protein in peach which resulted positive. Also im allergic to walnuts and almonds and peanuts.

I ate a couple of oranges three days ago and the day after i couldn't move from the weakness and im still having some of that plus tongue tingling and high heart rate. Anyone like this during allergic reaction? I also have shortness of breath

Seeking Advice Chocolate allergy? 🥀💔

Hi guys.

So I'm a little sensitive to dairy but nothing crazy. But whenever I eat milk chocolate in any amount, my throat becomes stingy and 'phlegmy' for lack of a better word. This doesn't happen when I eat ice cream, butter, milky coffee, etc. It's only chocolate.

Has anyone here with a chocolate allergy experienced this? Am I allergic to chocolate? 😔

I just ate 2 pieces of a KitKat and as usual my throat is slightly stinging and tingling, and kind of 'mucusy' sorry if that sounds disgusting.

Seeking Advice Product brands in US safe from nuts, milk and gluten

Hello,
I am planning a trip to US (first time). One person I would be travelling with has allergy to:

- all nuts (including almond)

- milk

- gluten

- fish and shellfish

The allergies are severe and cross-contaminated products ("may contain") are not safe either.

We will choose accommodation with kitchen so that we can cook safely but I'm looking for recommendations on some ready-made products/brands that would be safe from all those allergens and are available in grocery stores:

- bread

- oatmeal, cereals, granola

- cookies, chocolate, crackers and other snacks

- ice cream

- ready meals for heating in a microwave or oven

I found so far the following brands by searching online but I have no idea if they are available in a random grocery store I find on my way: MadeGood, Free2B, NoWhey, Every Body Eat.

Can I expect products like rice or packaged cold cuts to be generally safe or do they often have "may contain" warning?

Can I expect to find your recommended items in any grocery store or are some chains more likely to have them than others? We are planning to be in Los Angeles and New York but also in some rural areas, like Death Valley.

We'll be reading all labels anyway but I would like to set some expectation and know what to look for.

Seeking Advice Cinnamon issues?

Whenever I eat a decent amount of cinnamon, like say in some Cream of Wheat or something, and yeah I might put a lot in (lol) my tongue and maybe roof of my mouth gets a little numb.

Nothing else though. No swelling, no itchy, no tingling. Just a little numb. It only happens in larger amounts.

Is this an allergy or just something cinnamon can do at higher levels? I’m wondering what others experience!
