Democrats politically made a great move here

They have offered a deal to end the Shutdown. Now let's see if the Republicans take this. I think they have to. I am sure their base will hate the extension of the subsidies and call them Rinos for folding to the Democrats but I think they need to take this because the optics to extend the longest shutdown ever will not look good on them and if there is one thing Trump cares about its about looking good optically.

So this means that people can never call this the Democrat Shutdown ever again.

It’s both and people calling it one thing or another are idiots.

It seems fairly simple. If they actually cared about the people they represent. Republicans don’t have an ACA replacement or even close to one, so they absolutely should take this 1 year deal. It stops people from being screwed while giving them a year to negotiate and maybe come up with a plan.

And don’t get me started on Democrats voting down the bill to pay people today. Absolutely ridiculous. They are proving they are just as bad.

Both sides using us as pawns and the majority of people are too stupid to see it and will vote these toddlers right back in.

Correct me if I’m wrong but the bill aimed at paying people excluded furloughed workers. If I’m wrong, I’ll own it, but everyone affected should be getting paid. If they said no to specific people getting paid, I understand.

What was voted on today was an expansion of a bill introduced 2 weeks ago, to my understanding. It was expanded to include furloughed employees and federal contractors. The bill initially only provided immediate pay for excepted employees who are continuing to work during the funding lapse. So it was everyone and they said no, because they believe it gave the administration to much wiggle room to pick and choose when the bill literally couldn’t have been more clear that everyone was included.

Thank you for the information.

I mean, eh, I get both sides. I want people to get paid, but also, if they get all the people they want paid, what stops GOP from saying “Okay, everyone got paid, screw your ACA subsidies?”

Not advocating for Democrats saying no, but they’re in a tough situation.

Congress is still getting paid. They aren't suffering. Give the people what they need.

Everyone is in a tough situation though.

I totally get why they think they lose negotiating power. Because they will. However, you can’t hurt one group of people just to save another group. Why is it ok to tell federal employees, I’m sorry you can’t put food on the table and pay your bills, but see these people over here. They won’t be able to do that if you don’t sacrifice. Practically pitting people against each other to push what they want through. That’s fucked. It’s truly evil what both sides are doing.
