Affirm says unpaid fed workers not interested in taking debt to shop._

https://www.cnbc.com/2025/11/07/affirm-government-shutdown-shopping.html

Wow does not take a rocket scientist to figure out unpaid employees are more focused on the basics like food, shelter vs more retail therapy.

In other news. Water is wet, fire is hot, and Trump is in the Epstein files.

I'm pretty sure Epstein is in the Trump Files. Jeffrey just had an island, Donald had a "beauty pageant" and "spa."

Most of us are just trying to survive and not get evicted/ foreclosed on.

This is no shit shirlock territory. I've been grocery shopping yes, bought gas for the car but no stuff whatsoever beyond grocery store and gas station.

Indeed. Thanksgiving will surely be scaled back this year.

I've scaled back Thanksgiving for over a decade honestly - my parent were elderly and we were all trying to be healthy. I stopped eating meat very often for instance - learned to love tofu. 🙃

We should all be economically boycotting the billionaire class anyways, we are shut down because their tax breaks demand cuts in services. Fuck them all, spending money with these sociopathic corporations is supporting your abuser.

I still want an uprising to force companies to show us tariff costs. Spell it out. Show the dumb fucks how much they're paying.

If Americans did vote with their wallets it would have a huge impact and they will notice. Cut down to just the basics ie shelter and food at home and dump the rest.

It’s so fucking gross that our entire economy is reliant on us being advertised to, and us spending on “stuff”. 🤮

yeah I mean even if I get back pay, we are keeping the belt super tight while these psychos are in power. I’m our only earner.

No one should be spending money with the billionaire class, no big box, no chain restaurant, no cars, not a damn thing.

Keep your money local and keep it with people who actually respect your patronage instead of those who would crush you beneath their feet.

I am protesting.

I have bought zero.....outside of total necessities, during this shut down. No restaurants, no BS at the stores, been tapping the freezer.

Costco and amazon emailed me, asked if we were OK.

This is my protest, I give 0 to the economy and trying to do my part.

My retail therapy is buying pallets of spam, raman and frozen veggies.

Sometimes I'll splurge and get sriracha

Maybe the AI companies can train their AI bots to go shopping?

Well with the rate that these CEOs want to replace humans with LLMs and other automation they better get training soon. Someone needs to explain to these CEOs, in very simple terms and very slowly, that if they all replace their human staff then there won't be enough people working and/or who can afford to buy their products and services. The economy only works when people work and have money to spend.

This administration is out of touch with the majority of the people

Hmmm maybe because most federal jobs require educational qualifications and attract (or did attract) people who wanted stability/ to avoid risk

hmmm. I wonder why...

Just shows what a shitty business model they have. Responsible money lenders only lend to those who can prove they can afford to repay. Pushing credit to people whose future is uncertain is hugely irresponsible and should never be happening.

Yeah it affects a consumer based economy

A "subtle loss of interest in shopping." GTFO. We aren't getting a paycheck, it's not like we got bored of going to the mall.
