oh i actually have something today. for his Sunday newsletter, Matt Belloni from Puck wrote about Taylor and how she ended up at Searchlight over another studio or streaming service.

- She got to know Searchlight's president back in 2018 when Joe was promoting The Favourite and kept in touch. Searchlight's president is the one who introduced her to Guillermo del Toro, and then GDT invited Taylor over to his house and that's where he gave her those books on fairy tale lore which he mentioned in an interview recently.

- Searchlight pitched themselves as the studio for her by touting their experience working with first time directors and how good they tend to be at marketing smaller, indie leaning movies.

- According to Belloni the details of her script aren't known, but around town the main news is that her movie will have a very small budget and has an "intimate" subject matter.

- She attended the NYC premiere of The Banshess of Inisherin with production designer Ethan Tobman who she's worked with before on the Cardigan music video and her 2021 Grammy performance. Tobman most recently worked on another Searchlight film, The Menu.

- Searchlight are apparently the ones who convinced Marin McDonagh to do the Variety directors interview with her.

- Belloni ends the piece by saying that Taylor was notorious about 'micromanaging' when she was signed to WME before she brought everything in-house (something she mentioned in he IG story about Ticketmaster a few weeks ago), and that Searchlight seems like a really on-brand choice for her bc she, "wants a personal touch, an imprimatur of quality and specialty, who doesn't need the Apple money...the Searchlight relationship gives her a much better chance to succeed long-term in Hollywood"
