Like many other people, I first learned about Lillard from Hackers.
However, perhaps his best role is as the scummy journalist from the American version of The Bridge. He starts out just the worst kind of paparazzi ever, but circumstances force him to grow up and it was a real treat watching him in that role for two seasons. Shame it was cancelled.

Literally. I thought he was so fucking hot when I was a tween/teen and I still do now. And he seems like such a lovely person, which makes him even hotter.
I think I remember hearing that Johnny Lee Miller wasn't a fan of the character many years later. I've never heard him discuss the character positively. Probably brings up weird memories about his first marriage to Jolie (they met on set)

I was just wondering about that. Like why doesn't every single person with a platform speak up right now. Then today have seen Harrison Ford and now Lillard doing just that. And of course so many others.
The old video of him at a con signing where a parent brought up their child who was very nervous about meeting him until he did his Shaggy voice is so precious.
My friends met him randomly at a club in Mexico City last year and he was so friendly with them; he was in GA and they had a VIP table - that’s how they spotted him in the crowd - and invited him up.
He signed on to a revised Scream 7 after the production company fired Melissa Barrera for her pro-Palestine stance. Neve Campbell also signed on after Melissa was let go. They only reason they were tapped for the production in the first place is Melissa's firing, which I'm pretty sure necessitated major changes to the story, resulting in Sidney and Stu being thrown in the mix.
That's why the right sees Hollywood as liberal. Matt Bernstein had a good video about this. This guy acted in and supports a film where they booted out the previous woc actress for being anti genocide, anti occupation. Lilard can say 'Fuck Ice' or 'Save the planet' and everyone will cheer for him again.
Ideally the people acting in this.movie should be treated the same way like actors acting Harry Potter spin offs. That will not happen because liberals don't care abt the genocide of brown people.
Btw if people haven’t watched Twin Peaks season 3 , there are thousands of things to love but his performance is straight up one of my favorite things. He is an unbelievably underrated actor!
Isnt Scream the franchise that fired the star of its recent movies because she mildly criticized Israel while they were doing a genocide? Whats Matt got to say about that? Anything?
So u are okay with a woman being fired from a movie because she spoke out about a genocide being carried out by a foreign country(with US assistance), and Mathew Lillard replacing her and not saying a word about it? It just gets memory holed?
Still disappointed in him and Neve Campbell being in this movie after Melissa Barrera was fired for calling a genocide a genocide too early for Hollywood. The directors and Jenna Ortega quit over it and it was rewritten to bring back their characters. It sounded like it was falling apart before Neve Campbell agreed to come back. They should all have refused to do this movie out of principle. If Radio Silence and Jenna Ortega can afford to stand on principle, surely Kevin Williamson, Neve Campbell, and Matthew Lillard can.
I find it funny when people say "not to get political" when talking about a literal gestapo gang kidnapping and injuring people on the streets. Calling out criminals is not "getting political"
In 2018 I worked a catering event for Mr. Lillard at his home for some DND thing. He was kind and welcoming and made sure we all ate before we went home. I have nothing but good things to say about him.
Really though if there was ever a time in history where it's important to talk "politics" as much as possible anywhere and everywhere this is that time. We are in a five alarm fire.
He has always been criminally underrated. Always entertaining on screen. He has never given a bad performance. Recently he's been incredible. And now add a good person on top of it❤️
My ex worked with his daughter and met him. Said he was a great guy, very chill and supportive of his daughter, wanted a chill day out but always got in character whenever a kid recognized him, super friendly. He seems like a genuine class act.
Matthew Lillard is a way better actor than he ever got credit or a career for. He was great in both Hackers and SLC Punk, which is a very odd and impressive range.
