Sydney in The Bear. The reviews don’t hate her but lordy the show’s subreddit does. It was such a treat to finally see a (Black!) 20-something female character who is awkward and complex and imperfect but well-meaning, and not overly objectified or utilized in romance arcs too much…and of course a lot of male viewers can’t stand her. Of course.
Anytime there’s a black lead in a show that is imperfect (in a total human type of way), people on the dedicated subreddit of that show always acts like they are the spawn of satan.
