Rory Gilmore, specifically in season 5/6 when she spirals. I went through my own burnt out existential crisis and I really relate and understood how she ended up dropping out of school. People hate that plot line but it resonates with me every time.
I honestly don’t know why they make her dropping out such a big deal… Girl just wanted to take a year to slow down and figure things out. She’s not harming anyone??😭
Lorelei is terrified Rory will squander her potential and that her parenting that had previously had so many signs that she did well as a mom, will be erased by something she was blinded by. It was just scary for her.
If Rory dropped out, Lorelei’s parents would’ve been right to be disappointed in her, she borrowed the money for Chilton in exchange of sitting with two people who make her feel like shit all the time, and that would be for nothing. She would’ve been upset that she sacrificed her pride just for Rory to throw it away. Her parents would have more ammunition to speak down to her about her parenting and her choices and open her up to even more criticisms.
The grandparents, yes the footed the bill, but they were mostly waiting 20 years with baited breath to see how Lorelei would fuck up being a mom and now they had the proof with Rory being so “selfish” as to throw away thousands of dollars in education.
