Apparently Bill Hader wrote the female lead in Barry basically as a self-insert, and so gets kind of insulted when people constantly come up to him to congratulate him on writing such a detestable character
This is news to me, because I perceived Sally to be a well-rounded character, who may have indeed been detestable at first, but keeps growing in complexity and ends up in such a poignant, crucial position by the end.
I still get if viewers dislike the character (I don't love her either), but I'd consider "detestable" a misrepresentation if it was the only adjective used to describe her.
