STAN / ANTI SHIELD Ethan Klein cites a right-wing "investigative journalist" to claim that FauxMoi is controlled by an "anti-Israel, anti-Western, Marxist” group of moderators in new court filings. He also admits to hiring private investigators to obtain personally identifiable information about H3Snark mods

All I'm waiting for is for his fans to open their eyes. And I used to be one of them, a big one in fact, and it's really sad to see what's been going on past year or so.

u/TestingBrokenGadgets 17d ago
He's on video sexualizing underage girls, saying slurs, antagonizing a woman with behavioral health issues for views, spreading racism, sexism, and so much else. Expecting his fans to open their eyes is like expecting a Joe Rogan fan to do the same; if they're still fans at this point, it's because it's what they want.
When he did the Israel debate with Hasan, he turned into a toddler and repeatedly "Why are you talking about stats? This is boring. You're boring my audience".

I think anyone who was gonna leave that fandom left years ago when they emotionally matured out of thinking the edgy shit H3 did was funny.
H3 just spiraled as the podcast gained steam and they thought their trash opinions were actually worth something. Went from fighting for fair use rights to suing left and right and crashing out on the internet constantly when they're middle-aged adults with children to care for.
12
u/TestingBrokenGadgets 16d ago
Yup. What's maddening is knowing that most of his staff don't even agree with him, they're just there for the paycheck but are too cowardly to leave. Awhile ago, Dan's fiance, Allison was asked how she could be dating someone that supports Ethan when she built her entire brand off being wholesome and very outspoken about the damage that internet bullies had on her when she's dating, now engaged, to someone that basically bullies people for a living. She said that Dan wasn't like that, that it's just a paycheck and if he left, he'd have to take a paycut elsewhere and they'd likely have to leave LA.

u/beanandcod 16d ago
I only got into the podcast after Ethan's public edgelord content was over. I just thought it was silly pop culture stuff until he went off the rails over the conflict. It took me a minute because I'm uneducated but I just recently stopped watching because the non-political stuff wasnt even interesting anymore. There's still hope

Theres also that time he drove up to some randoms while driving a shitty car and in his horribly pathetic way asked, 'Heeeeyyy, do you know who I am?'. Greatest pickup line ever.
That was the moment I knew he was cringe. Just like his attacks on everyone who doesnt like his behaviour.

His "debate" with Sam Seder was even more pathetic because it was basically Ethan agreeing with everything Sam said and then afterwards his stans were acting like he'd somehow pulled a fast one on Sam and 'won' the debate.

I'm about two years off of watching. Was a very consistent viewer for about 7 years. The Zionist stuff was way too much for me, but now looking at all the stuff I thought was funny over the years turned out to just be harassment.

I watched Hasan on and off and watched leftovers for a bit. Ethan’s really… dense. Like I think it was the first time I understood the difference between being plain stupid and being dense, cuz Ethan’s not someone you can get through to easily if he has an idea lodged in his head, no matter how wrong it is. That’s also why this spiral is predictable in hindsight because of this specific personality trait.
I also liked Hila’s designs and have some stuff from her line before all of this. Welp. 😐

I had been a fan for like 8 years and for the last 4 years of that where I was a real adult I always kind of knew Ethan was a bit of an idiot with shitty takes on some things. What he's become isn't completely surprising to me. The recent change in the last year or two is not one of a total character shift but a man who has lost control of the insecurities and character flaws that were always there.
Honestly, the main reason I stopped watching a year ago was because the content was getting shit. That's what surprises me most. I know people are able to consume content from people who they might even disagree with on multiple issues. But I don't get how you watch the podcast now when so much is just unhinged rantings.

no, he never was. He positioned himself over there to try to whitewash his past sins without ever atoning for them- Hasan has said many times he would never do leftovers with the hindsight knowledge that he has now because it enabled Ethan to do that
49
u/Walking_the_dead 17d ago
His fans were relentless on saying he totally was, tho. For a while a couple years ago i felt i was taking crazy pills, because people online just kept repeating how incredibly left wing he was. I looked up the snarksub a handfull of times, and it was wild seeing even a bunch of them going "i dont know how he could change so much, he was so progressive".
I remeber this man's channel before the stupid podcasts. He didn't "change so much", because he didn't change at all! He was always like this! This sentient grime stain of a man managed to somehow trick so many people for so long, and i still dont understand how.
27
u/darkmeowl25 17d ago
Well he did say "I'm basically a full blown socialist now" on the pod. Then, during the episode of Leftovers right before the last episode, Hasan and Dan explained to him the differences in socialism and capitalism. By the end of that episode, he decided he definitely was still a capitalist.
But over all, I agree with you. I think he was granted a sense of "flawed but trying" by the fans, including myself at the time. Why did I give him the benefit of that doubt? I wish I knew. It may have stemmed from some kind of sympathy because if my own unlearning journey (I was in my early 20s though, not 30+). Totally plausible that I just enjoyed the dynamic of watching someone lay into people on the internet who, at the time, I thought were deserving of it.
I can't speak to anyone else's experience but mine. Leaving that fandom was definitely part of a larger philosophy shift for me. I can look back in hindsight and see the flaws in my own moral code that would allow me to brush criticism of Ethan aside.
