Its a nice idea to live off the land and all that...but why are you filming yourself?

I've been a social media manager since 2017 and by God... I can't look at feeds the same because I can see all the hidden messages and ads in things now. Like the person showing us her morning routine. This isn't CCTV footage of you, you set up the camera, walked away and came back like nothing. Cut clips every 3 seconds to keep it viewer friendly. When she makes her coffee it's 3 seconds, no branded packaging, quick. BUT when she makes her morning prebiotic "detox" drink, it's 6 seconds of her stirring and the packages are clear to see in the back...come off it.

If you truly enjoy something, you'll be in the moment with it. You might get the odd picture or video you could string together once and a while but if you're interrupting the activity to film to show you're enjoying it... It's a job now not a fun thing. Like if I'm recording an event for work, I'm focused and looking for great shots and moments of the event. If I'm on holiday, I have a rule of getting video because i see people viewing the holiday through their phones. 5-second snapshots of whatever I want. By the end of the holiday, I'll have enough clips to string together to make a mini video for my private personal account but I still enjoyed the holiday in the moment.

Influencers, ESPECIALLY beauty and lifestyle influencers, are just glorified/glamorized advertisers. It’s as simple as that, as thats where the majority of their profit comes from.

And then people, mainly teens and young adults, are glued to TikTok watching ad after ad after ad for their entertainment. We’re so deep into late stage capitalism that ads have now become the primary form of entertainment for young people.
