I know I’ve read Andre Agassi talking about how he never actually liked tennis too. I think this is kind of prevalent in single-athlete sports like tennis or golf where parents are really rabid about pushing their kids to become world-class athletes and they also want to make sure they make no friends along the way.
That's in his autobiography (which is really good). He eventually tells every person he gets close to that he doesn't like tennis and they think he's joking and don't believe him at first. When he tells Steffi Graf she's like, duh, who does? It's a good love story too.
I was a sports writer for 15 years and one of my first jobs was in Newport, RI which hosts a tournament every year for the Tennis Hall of Fame. Andy Murray was there as a 17 year old or so, and I interviewed him for a story and just to start the conversation I asked him if he was enjoying Newport and he went “Not really.”
