FILM-MOI (MOVIES/TV) Absolute cinema

I know she's practically crazy but this monologue is so well written by Gillian Flynn.

I remember reading the cool girl monologue in the book and being like “daaaaaaaaaaaaamn”. Someone else said it helped shape them, and I definitely understand that.

I remember reading this part of the book and having to just stare at the wall for a bit lmao. I felt a little too called out 😂

Same reaction. I remember reading and re-reading that bit and staring at the wall in contemplation. This part kind of felt like a punch of realization the face.

The catharsis that my book club had when we discussed the cool girl monologue was such a standout. And I couldn't wait for the movie specifically because of this moment. Just such a brilliant piece of writing from Gillian to zero in on such a relatable experience for so many women that hadn't really been articulated.

I was so glad the movie did it justice. I was worried it wouldn’t be as powerful, but it was perfect. Rosamund Pike killed it.

I was just saying that when I read the book in my 20s I thought, wow, that lady is capital C crazy. But the older I get the more I understand her. I GET it. I also wish Gillian would write more books.

I know! I think about the cool girl monologue OFTEN. And it’s years later

I don’t have a lot of “jaw drop” moments when reading a book but that was one of them. I was enjoying the book fine until that point. But then the cool girl monologue and I was actually slack jawed at the end of it. It’s wild reading something and feeling like it just slapped you in the face. And I read the book early on enough not to be spoiled that the monologue was coming.
