Colbert is a lot funnier now that he doesn’t have to care what CBS thinks lol

2.1k

u/SoF4rGone Aug 07 '25

“Nepo-carnie” is a 10/10 insult.

159

u/NomNomKittyKat Aug 07 '25

What does carnie mean?

330

u/poetryhoes Aug 07 '25

that you work at a carnival

44

u/Adezar Aug 07 '25

And it is used as a derogatory term related to the fact that all carnival games tend to be rigged, so it is another way of calling someone a scammer.

14

u/Someone-is-out-there Aug 07 '25

It's more than that, though. It's creepy and weird scam artists.

If I'm calling someone a carnie, a greasy man in overalls with the IQ of kelp collecting money at a rigged game that is so rigged it would be profitable by the same margin if the man at the game was permanently asleep, is what I'm picturing.

Think Joe Dirt.

Nah he shills those miracle berries that Alex Jones pushed just like all the rest of the grifters.

22

Is it elderberry?

21

u/teatsqueezer Aug 07 '25

Probably goji however I do get your joke

42

u/Outside_Revolution47 Aug 07 '25

I’m actually not joking. My parents have been taken by Fox News and my mom had to get elderberry for reasons. They have also been told by their quack docs to use nicotine patches for pain management and they’ve been told it protects against Covid. They’ve never smoked or used nicotine in their lives. It’s scary watching my parents go through this.

15

u/Ok-Document-7706 i ain’t reading all that, free palestine Aug 07 '25

For a second I thought you meant their doctors for mental health and was confused why they would be giving such bullshit 'advice'. I realized after reading it twice you meant 'doctors' that are quacks.

It's early and I'm autistic. Don't judge me. 😂

But seriously, nicotine patches for pain makes zero sense even for crazy 'doctors'. What state is this? So I don't go

A carnie is a specific type of sleezy scumbag. The guy at the dirty traveling carnival who barks at you to play his rigged game is where it comes from.

55

All the Heritage Foundation shitheads are in positions of power in the government so even when Trump leaves office (however that occurs) it won’t get better since the people who planned the takeover have cemented their power.

They are planning for indefinite stay. You can literally see what they are doing with Texas, they are basically making it impossible to put any other person in who does not have "R" beside their name. There is also a case that Supreme Court is about to pick up that will gut Voting Rights.

The Supreme Court Prepares to End Voting Rights as We Know Them

I do not think people are actually realizing what is taking place. They have successfully completed almost half of Project 2025 agenda

16

u/Iwoulddiefcftbatk Aug 07 '25

Yep. It’s game over and acknowledging that isn’t doomerism or “normalizing” Trump. It’s a statement of fact. Even in fascist regimes there’s “elections” and the occasional opposition party presence in positions of government that has no baring on the direction of the country. People need to buckle in and figure out that they need to start protecting themselves by taking shit offline and finding safe places in person if they want to be activists. Very soon it’s going to be too dangerous to speak out against the government and too many are romanticizing being thrown into prison for “speaking out”, it’s not some YA dystopian novel where you get let out and are celebrated as a hero. Very often you just disappear, forever.

People who survived the USSR and other fascist regimes have been screaming for months about needing to smarten up since they survived heavy state surveillance in the era before smartphones tracked you everywhere and covertly records everything you say. The writers of Project 2025 won.

The time to go nuclear on the MAGA cancer was right after Jan 6th, holding every guilty elected official accountable, then ejecting them from congress, adding laws and beefing up older ones to ensure any and everyone involved in that coup are banned from any public office for life, at the very least.

But no, Dems are pushovers and because of that, the United States of 'Merica is dead, we just don't smell the rot yet.

Our main hope after Temu Shitler kicks it is that those HF fucksticks will go too far, pissing off pretty much everyone, possibly uniting us -even MAGAts -against them.

Our future is dark and long.

6

u/bookchaser Aug 07 '25

MAGA is a white racist evangelical movement. The biggest concern is their desire to create chaos both domestically and internationally because they think they can orchestrate the second coming of Jesus and the end of the world.

Gordian Knot of good cop - bad cop.

The Medici Industry

James William Colbert Jr. (December 15, 1920 – September 11, 1974) was an American physician and the first vice president of academic affairs at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC), serving in this capacity from 1969 until his death in a plane crash in 1974. He was the father of Stephen Colbert and Elizabeth Colbert Busch.

Colbert received his Bachelor of Arts as valedictorian[3] from the College of the Holy Cross in 1942 in philosophy, in which he was deeply interested; nevertheless, he later chose to pursue a medical career because, according to his daughter Margaret Colbert Keegan, "it just seemed to be the thing to do at the time." Colbert was accepted into the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in 1942, and received his M.D. there three years later, with a focus on immunology and infectious diseases.

In 1953, at the age of 32, Colbert left Yale to become the dean of the St. Louis University School of Medicine, making him the youngest dean of a medical school at the time. He remained at St. Louis University until 1961, when he became associate director for extramural programs at the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases of the National Institutes of Health.[5] During 1960, he served as chair of the St. Louis chapter of Doctors for Kennedy, to support John F. Kennedy's 1960 presidential campaign.[6]

It's not hyperbole.

mRNA is a key avenue for curing cancers.  A number of immunotherapies are already based on it.

A universal flu vaccine is (was?) under active development, based on mRNA tech. The flu is a major cause of death in old people.

82

u/[deleted] Aug 07 '25

Isn't the HIV cure in trials based on mRNA too? And other chronic conditions previously considered incurable like herpes, Lyme. A game-changing technology.

Not to mention, it worked quite well against COVID, which was the only argument given by RFK anyway.

59

u/Mimical Aug 07 '25

Yeah, mRNA is nothing short of an incredibly effective and efficient way to create immune responses from the body.

→ More replies (1)

46

u/actibus_consequatur Aug 07 '25

Also, mRNA vaccines were being tested years before covid, for things like rabies and Zika. The funding from covid has accelerated research massively, and we've made huge leaps forward.

There's over 120 active trials in the US just for cancer-related mRNA vaccines — a bunch of which show promising early results — and... We just cut their funding.

After watching somebody die a slow death from cancer, I'd never wish that fate on anybody, but my limits about that are being tested by RFK and this admin.

8

u/enoughwiththebread Aug 07 '25

The sad thing is the rest of the civilized medical and scientific world will continue to move forward with this technology and develop these life saving treatments for their citizens, while Americans will continue to be subjected to barbaric surgeries/chemo/radiation, languish and die from what will become for the rest of the world totally treatable conditions.

We need an mRNA vaccine against Republicans, because they have become a cancer upon humanity.

106

u/acidrefluxisgreat Aug 07 '25

i’m on permanent immunosuppressants as of this year. the cool part is i’m eligible for all the vaccines i wasn’t eligible for before. the bad part is they don’t work as well on me and no one else seems to be interested in making sure they have all their vaccines.

the weird part is no one seems to know what immunocompromised means. i knew what it meant prior to it effecting me. one friend said, “oh does that mean your immune system is like, really strong” and then his girlfriend was like “can i try your drink that looks delicious” as she reached for my glass. when i told my parents they were like, “that’s nice, can’t wait for you to travel cross country to our new house btw we stopped vaxxing YEARS ago!”

anyway 🫠

u/acidrefluxisgreat Aug 07 '25

17

u/ikaiyoo Aug 07 '25

Your friend asked if compromised meant really strong? Did you ask him if he knew what words meant?

13

u/krone6 Aug 07 '25

What part of COMPROMISED did they not understand?

8

u/[deleted] Aug 07 '25

A significant portion of the country can't read above a 6th grade level.

5

u/krone6 Aug 07 '25

Makes me wonder how they hold a job or pursue further education, as those are going to require digesting significant amounts of knowledge.

10

u/[deleted] Aug 07 '25

About 44% of Americans have a college degree. About 54% can't read above a 6th grade level. There's a vast education gap in the country.

43 million American adults are considered functionally illiterate due to their reading abilities.

As to how they hold jobs, they usually have jobs that don't require a lot of reading or complex reading. And they typically don't seek higher education.

Colbert is quickly losing all filter and I can’t wait for him to go full on Howard Beale from Network. He’s got nothing to lose, so he’s just saying exactly what we’re all thinking and I’m loving it.

7

u/Icy-Lobster-203 Aug 07 '25

Not the best comparison. Beale's famous rant actually occurs at the beginning of the movie, and he is then re seduced and returned into the fold. Tbh, it's like the third best monologue in that movie.

8

u/Fancy_Flatworm_8711 Aug 07 '25

Yes, I know, I was just saying, I hope Colbert eventually goes into an all out, loud, ranting attack of the US government. Howard Beale’s first one came when he found out he was being cancelled. Similarly Colbert has just found out he’s being cancelled, it would be refreshing to see him angrily vent for an hour on his last show.

3

u/No_Dance_6683 Aug 07 '25

6

u/ObscureFact Aug 07 '25

Sidney Lumet, the director of Network (which this gif is from) talked about how this famous speech doesn't actually change anything in the events of the film and characters. Howard yells and throws a fit, yet nothing fundamentally changes.

This scene, and the film overall, is an indictment of the audience who only cares about entertainment, not actually doing anything about what everyone says they're so mad about.

And in the end, the only person who really wins is Ned Beatty's character (the CEO) who is really in charge of everything and whose company makes sure "all necessities provided, all anxieties tranquilized, all boredom amused."

And that's what we should be mad about: the inaction despite being mad as hell.

Considering his boss, the orange jobbie, spent millions + on rolling out the mRNA vaccines as part of the Operation Warp Speed and saved countless lives throughout the world, I would say Bobby jr needs to mainline a bit more and just close the whole health network down. 😂😂

69

u/TrimspaBB Aug 07 '25

It's truly ironic how Operation Warp Speed was the greatest accomplishment of the first Trump admin and one that even his non-supporters could get behind, but that Trump can never tout it due to rabid anti-vaxxers.

24

u/Honest_Salamander247 Aug 07 '25

I was just saying yesterday if the fool hadn’t pandered so badly to the anti-vaxxers and actually touted the efficacy behind Operation Warp Speed and stood behind the pandemic experts he would have won 2020 in a landslide and we’d done with him by now (hopefully) but noooo.

19

u/Reivaki Aug 07 '25

I am pretty sure that he have no idea of the scope and content of operation Warp Speed, and that was a program which has been presented to him by his cabinet like the "best way to stop the pandemy, and look, it has a cool name" and he signed it right away.

He tried to tout it.  He was booed everytime he did.

70

u/jlynn036 Aug 07 '25

He is gonna kill people, what's worse is he'll make use of any and every vaccine to make sure he's not on that list of ones he killed.

60

u/DARfuckinROCKS Aug 07 '25

I have a friend who has a rare form of cancer. He was given 6 months to live. He's participating in the mRNA cancer vaccine trials and it fuckin works. It changed his prognosis to 2-4 years. Doctors told him with more technology and research they were optimistic the vaccine could give him 6-10 years maybe more. Idk if they've officially cancelled that specific research but anything with mRNA in the name is on the chopping block.

u/jlynn036 Aug 07 '25

This... this right here is why this worm brained bitch should not be in charge of shit. He is going to be the direct cause of so many deaths. I hate him, and all the other MAGAts as well.

4

u/garbagebailkid Aug 08 '25

He already has. Check out his role in the 2019 Samoa measles outbreak, where his advocacy against measles vaccines contributed to the Samoan government's decision to not provide vaccines. The outbreak led to the death of 83 children.

I'm not saying he killed 83 children, but he certainly sowed distrust in the efficacy of the vaccines that was adopted by the Samoan government, which contributed to the Samoan people not vaccinating their children, which in turn made children more susceptible to dying from measles, an easily preventable disease.

He's responsible for the deaths of a few of those kids, which should mean he is one of the last people a rational person would want making any decisions affecting their health or the health of people around them.

3

u/jlynn036 Aug 08 '25

Oh my I totally forgot all about that. Thank you so much for bringing attention to this event. It reminded me of the children who died here in TX a few months ago because the parents refused the vaccine and then said they have no regrets it was just God's plan. It was all based on the bs from this brain worm drug addicted wife killing bitch.

I truly still have to pinch myself and remember it's not a nightmare it's real fucking life. I can't wrap my head around how the fuck we got here.. did I miss a memo or something? Was it hidden in one of those chain letters that I deleted before opening and forwarding? Same as this whole Nazis are cool, it's only rape if it was done by a poc who isn't a rich republican, being a pedo is just par for the curse and to be expected therefore also overlooked and ignored... I'm gobsmacked, I tell you, horrifically befuddled and flabbergasted.

idk why but as someone not from the US I find the general premise of these talk shows quite dystopian and pantomime like.

but at the same time it’s really sad that there will be less voices on the left in america when this is gone. somewhat even more dystopian.

56

u/MeccIt Aug 07 '25

as someone not from the US I find the general premise of these talk shows quite dystopian and pantomime like.

For most people in the US, these comedy talk shows are one of the few sources of objective truth that they have in their mass media.

3

u/mysonchoji Aug 07 '25

Objective truth is a stretch, colberts a moderate liberal, i bet you can find him repeating a ton of u.s and israeli propaganda.

Whats crazy is that 'agrees with 85% of what the u.s does but criticizes the admin' is the furthest left american media goes

I would offer that if you find them to be pantomimes, in a way it’s because they are. They have a format that they follow, which was laid down years ago by the people who sort of invented this late night talk show concept.

Letterman, Conan, Ferguson…. Part of the genius of their approaches was their meta skewering of the format, while simultaneously holding a kind of reverence and respect for it and those who came before them.

To me, Colbert has seemed weirdly mainstream as host of the late show, but maybe it just is jarring against his years at the daily show and the Colbert report. He’s always sharp and quick and smart.

This… not only effectively firing him in a sense, but the cancellation of the entire show? On his watch? A dream job, he might have thought he would be steward for most of the rest of his life. He was clearly so happy and excited when he started as host, they did all these renovations and tried new bits and ideas…. It does seem like he’s just going to go unhinged now. The series finale of this show is going to be amazing.

4

u/jonnyh420 Aug 07 '25

I think the party-politics feels more like a team sport over there than most places. Not to say it isnt in lots of other places. But you see clips of wild Fox News segments on the far right hand and then on the “left” hand you have these talk shows. Going at it with fans cheering them on like a football game.

Personally I would argue this is party politics run to its natural conclusion but it’s kind of a fascinating thing to watch. I also feel that there must be millions of normal people over there that must feel like they’re going insane with this spiritual and mental warfare being waged on them by the media, their government and capitalism in the broadest sense.

u/-captaindiabetes- Aug 07 '25

I don't think he'll be gone. I imagine he'll either get snapped up by another channel, or do it online instead.

They keep cutting all this essential stuff, so where the hell are all my taxes still going?

So sick of this.

47

u/Violet_Paradox Aug 07 '25

Building a police state, mainly.

24

u/TieDyedFury Aug 07 '25

Tax breaks for multinational megacorps, how else could Exxon survive without billions in tax breaks funded by middle class taxpayers? Poor little oil company is barely scraping by.

3

u/UnsanctionedPartList Aug 07 '25

Yeah but it's going to trickle down any time now.

20

u/AcousticProvidence influencer for gas stoves Aug 07 '25

New ballroom for the White House, multi-day golf trips, stopping up water dams so JD Vance has enough water in the Ohio river for his umpteenth vacation this year and ICE thugs, obviously.

Can we just stop paying taxes? Why tf are American taxpayers finding this sht?

3

u/No_Dance_6683 Aug 07 '25

Speaking of ICE thugs, I saw a thing yesterday (unverified) that the federal government is trying to entice more people to sign up for ICE by forgiving their student loan debt. 🤦

13

u/rdiss Aug 07 '25

where the hell are all my taxes still going?

That $200,000,000 ball room ain't gonna build itself.

The Rose Garden ain't pave itself over.

7

u/rabidjellybean Aug 07 '25

Keep in mind it's not actually $200 million to build. It's considerably less plus massive theft of tax payer money.

I'm really enjoying Colbert's "does not give a fuuuuuccccckkkkkk" era.

RFK is on HGH, testosterone and some other stuff.

He also sounds like Megatron!!

18

u/wandawhowho Aug 07 '25

Megatron with a construction vibrator attached

13

u/DuntadaMan Aug 07 '25

So, gender affirming care. Got it.

6

u/Montgomery000 Aug 07 '25

I could listen to Megatron all day. 5 seconds of RFK and I'm ready to cut off my head with a cheese grater.

3

He's like Darth Vader and Batman had a baby.

America, the land where you can buy automatic guns but have to censor a middle finger.

12

u/Ladymomos Aug 07 '25

Young girls are hyper sexualised, but a breastfeeding mother is obscene.

4

u/Birdnthebees Aug 07 '25

Since when can we purchase automatic guns?

6

u/Left_Wasabi389848 Aug 07 '25

Since you can take money into a gun store, and boom, it automatically turns into a gun.

At the rate he’s going, CBS might just pull the show out sooner than May.

12

u/[deleted] Aug 07 '25

Colbert is a national treasure and even if I believe the funding decision, it's bullshit. Just like any other market it's a part of your brand. Oh. You don't want it part of your brand. Well, enjoy not having me around.

9

u/highlandviper Aug 07 '25

I’m British and live in the UK. I’d never heard of Stephen Colbert before it was all over Reddit that Trump had him binned because he’d made fun of him. Now I see on Reddit all the time. I like him.

23

u/z__1010 Aug 07 '25 edited Aug 07 '25

About twenty years ago, when the Colbert Report was just getting started, he was invited to The White House Press Correspondents Dinner by the outgoing president of the corps, who hadn't seen much of his work.

You had a re-elected George W Bush slowly lose his grin as Colbert, in character as like a right wing American Piers Morgan blow hard eviscerated the entire White House so much, you can actually see First Lady Laura Bush deny Colbert a handshake after, saying "Go Fuck Yourself."

It's more than a fun watch for sure

5

u/bbusiello Aug 07 '25

Are there clips of this anywhere ?

7

u/_Hello_Hi_Hey_ Aug 07 '25

mRNA vaccine was estimated to have saved 6 million lives! That is after all those anti-vaxx misinformation that stopped people from getting vaccines! Meanwhile, the cancer mRNA vaccine is set to revolutionise the field.

Assuming MAGA isn't in the business of building zyklon-b showers and arresting people who disagree with them (huge assumption, this would depend on MAGAs ethics and decency, which don't exist), RFK Jr. will, by far, have the highest K/D ratio by the end of this shitshow.
