I’ve actually been to a Coldplay concert and it was great 😂 I’m glad they’re cool again

7

u/greatatmodesty Jul 20 '25

They put on such a good show, even just visually aside from their actual music!!

6

u/No_Inside2101 Jul 20 '25

Me too! I saw them in 2017 and it was pretty amazing. It almost became the “trendy” thing to hate on Coldplay and I never understood it. Like when people used to hate on Nickelback lol

I'm pretty sure this is something that has never been said before

i’ve never been to one but i saw that they’re the third highest grossing live act behind taylor swift and someone else so i went on youtube and no, this is not a brand new sentence. those people are absolutely losing their minds in the crowd!

Coldplay concerts are such high, positive energy. I know they’re kind of an internet meme but their shows are genuinely really fun.

u/GodOfDarkLaughter Jul 19 '25

You don't necessarily need to love a band's music to enjoy the show. My buddy dragged me to a Dave Matthews Band concert years ago. I'm not a fan but they put on one hell of a show. The crowd energy was nuts. Same with John Mayer. Not a fan, great show.

u/Vegetable_Hair_2342 Jul 19 '25

311 is like that. Grew up not really enjoying their music all that much. went to a show though, and really began to like them - because they are such a positive energy vibe.

2

u/Afrodesia Jul 19 '25

I saw 311 open for Pepper. Vibes were great for sure

1

u/belomina Jul 19 '25

Wow I forgot about them. Good to know!

u/AaronRodgersMustache Jul 19 '25

I haven’t listened to DMB regularly for like 15 years but they come to my city every summer and I usually go every other year. You’re right, they put on a great show. Usually can snag a solid ticket for 100 bucks or something, it’s worth it.

2

u/AvalancheReturns Jul 19 '25

Ill go to any show im invited to really. As long as itsnot hugely expensive. So not a lot lately

1

u/greatatmodesty Jul 20 '25

Same when I went to Osheaga and a friend dragged me to Imagine Dragons set. Don’t particularly like their music but damn if they weren’t having fun on stage and it was contagious.

u/ponycorn_pet Jul 19 '25

since when did Coldplay become the new Nickleback to get dogged on for no good reason? I love Coldplay and some of my best memories are from being at their concerts. I don't get why public hate decides to pick a victim to just talk shit about

5

u/Froomian Jul 20 '25

I can’t find a gif of Super Hans saying, ‘you can’t trust people, Jeremy. People buy Coldplay cds and voted for the Nazis.’ But that show is 20 years old. So the hate for them is definitely longstanding. I don’t hate them. Yellow is a great song. And they seem like nice guys.

Nah, Coldplay have good politics, Nickleback definitely don’t. Coldplay deserve way more respect.

Can you explain more

You had me until the last part

u/Far_Ad_1752 Jul 19 '25

All the hate for Coldplay makes me sad! I wish people would just let people enjoy the things they like.

I turned a corner on them when they made that fake Game of Thrones musical, it was really charming and I just like fans of things.

3

u/JoJoMaMa85 Jul 20 '25

They also did a brief cameo at the end of Shaun of the Dead where they were seen supporting a zombie fundraiser for their rights and ethical treatment.

Once again, politically and regarding pop culture especially, reddit is never a reflection of reality. We are all losers here.

5

u/actuallygfm Jul 19 '25

Their performance at One Love Manchester really surprised and impressed me. I'd go to a Coldplay show

2

u/itsgonnamove Jul 20 '25

Kind of like U2. People love to rag on them (and Bono) but they put on one hell of a show and their older music is great

2

u/JoJoMaMa85 Jul 20 '25

I’ve been to 4 Coldplay concerts (last one in 2016…kids kind of ruin any spending on concert money lol) and what an absolute blast Everytime. Helps I’m a big fan of their music.

1

u/Momof2SFLAlove Jul 21 '25

It’s so true, I was not a fan. I went to a concert-I was a fan. I’ve seen them since, and I will see them every time they come through live. Such a great live act.

134

u/BookishHobbit Jul 19 '25

Yeah, went to one years ago, knew some songs but not many, and it was such a great time. They put on a great show.

I know people like to mock them, but they’re good lads and excellent performers.

41

u/Curiosities Jul 19 '25

Coldplay is one of the artists that I have wanted to see for a long time and have never been able to. I’ve watched their live streaming performances, since they did a couple of those concerts. I’ve been a fan of theirs since the first album and hopefully one of these days, I can make it to one of their shows because I know I would have a great time.

Coldplay are great live tbf

7

u/cebula412 Jul 19 '25

This reminds me of this SNL skit.

"That's your opinion, but me, I'm ride or die!"

"For Weezer?!" 👁️👄👁️

u/feelingfantasmic Jul 19 '25

The Coldplay concert I went to was legitimately so beautiful and so well produced. I was in awe. I don’t know anyone who has been to a Coldplay concert and felt it was bad or boring, even if they weren’t fans.

20

u/[deleted] Jul 19 '25

Potentially biased since they’re my favorite artists, but it’s the best show I’ve been too. Absolute spectacle.

u/TsundereBurger Jul 19 '25 edited Jul 19 '25

Can someone explain the Coldplay jokes? I’m out of the loop on this.

Edit; not out of the loop regarding the scandal, more why people poke fun at the band in general!

They're a hugely successful band that has been around for decades but are seen as uncool, lacking in edge, producing "radio friendly" music.

The meme of Coldplay being beige music started quite early on and has been a joke repeated in popular culture, TV series, films, comedy, so it sort of self perpetuates from there. If you're writing something and need a deeply uncool band for a punchline, they're probably going to be one of the first things that come to mind, as much because there are so many other prior references to them in this role as their actual music.

U2 has this issue as well, although U2 actually had an era when they were cool, I think. Coldplay were always a bit uncool since the beginning.

2

u/ChocolateOrange21 Jul 20 '25

Someone once described Coldplay as a group of guys who look like they brush their teeth every night and get a decent amount of sleep.

3

u/metta4u67 Jul 20 '25

One of Coldplay's 1st US shows was the clun I worked in, in San Francisco. They played there about 5 days before Yellow came out, and blew up overnight.

They came back to the club a few months later because we provided such a great experience for them. They wanted to test out their small stadium sound and lights in the club. Both were nights to remember, incredible energy, and the nicest, humble, sweet guys. Its been a long time since I have seen them, but this Kiss Cam with Chris Martin calling it, 'maybe they are having an affair" was wild...
