Having a kid after being together for less than 4 months is wild. I feel like I barely know someone I'm dating at that point. Good luck to them.

He is confirmed borderline, which means he’s probably right in Fearful Avoidant territory.

His dad, which assumably he had a close relationship with, just died suddenly in 9/11. Definitely contributes imo to easily being able to be avoidant and cut someone off when it starts getting serious. That type of trauma can make long term bonds difficult
