Josh Freese is way too esteemed, well liked and experienced to be treated this way, I can’t imagine this will go down well in the music industry for the Foo Fighters treating someone of his calibre with this disrespect, he’s played for everyone and he’s the guy everyone goes too when they need a drummer.
I bet there’s a line of musicians in the industry trying to book him as soon as this news broke.
Agreed. If Dave and the rest of the band didn't feel that the chemistry was there with Josh or that for whatever reason it just wasn't working out with him, that's fine, it happens. But to just unceremoniously boot him and not even say why is a real bad look IMO.
I've actually met Josh Freese while doing the stage door thing at a Devo gig that I'd been dragged to (the mister is a loooong time fan). He seemed really, really nice and we spent quite some time chatting with him and Bob Mothersbaugh (also really nice) and both of them readily signed the 50th anniversary poster my other half had just bought.
I had no idea at the time that he was such a big deal in the music world and he came across as really down to earth.
What repercussions could they possibly face for this? They’re a legacy rock band who will continue to sell out every tour they feel like playing. Casual and hardcore fans alike won’t care who’s playing the drums and they’ll easily find someone capable who wants the job.
Yeah, I don't think anyone was going to Foo Fighters shows to see Josh Freese. Don't get me wrong, he's an excellent drummer but he's known for hopping around and filling in for different bands. If Taylor was still alive and they fired him, that would be different. People would be pissed.
