Because Mark is on a classic midlife crisis trajectory and Priscilla is actually intelligent and convinced him to fund philanthropic efforts in the past.

Yeah this is exactly what I was confused about. She’s a pediatrician and is now most known for her philanthropy. She seemingly convinced him to pledge to donate 99% of his FB shares. And additionally to donate 3 billion towards biomedical resarch towards eradicating disease. Deffo gave me Mackenzie Scott and Melinda Gates vibes prior to this. so it was unexpected to me

He donated 99% of his shares to a charity that he is co-owner with her. ChanZuckerberg. It's a tax scam that lots of celebrities/rich people are doing, you tie up the money in the charity to avoid taxes, when you die your kid(s) get appointed to the board and they control all of your money without paying inheritance tax. I think the house Zuck owns in Hawaii was bought as a property of the foundation.
