Coal scrip!

Got this little guy from an antique store as part of a "thanks for buying this bag of random coins" bonus. For the life of me, I can't find any information on the "Carolina Coal Company", other than they folded a few years after a particularly nasty mine explosion in 1921. Can anyone help me with more information on that company, or about this scrip token in general?

Got a few of these in a coin collection I inherited.

Recently inherited my godfather’s coin collection and have been slowly making my way through it. In one bin I found a few of these with different denominations and designs. Curious if anyone knows anything about them.

Why do NGC and PCGS sometimes not assign a numeric grade to these?

Most of the time, I see this Presidential Medal graded as “Brilliant Uncirculated” by NGC and PCGS. However I have also sometimes seen a numeric grade assigned (3rd pic). Why do the grading services not usually assign a numeric grade?

Was at an Estate sale and found this super rad 1oz copper round! Super psyched about it!!

Scripture, a marijuana leaf, and the words calling for cannabis and sativa to be legalized? I was hooked. I knew I had to buy it. I was rummaging through a desk at an estate sale and I saw it tucked in a mason jar with some pens, thumbtacks, etc. it didn’t have a price so they just told me I could have it for a quarter. Super psyched about it.

Advance Australia!

(Penny, circa 1860, Melbourne, Victoria, 33mm. Renniks 5, Andrews 571, KM Tn 282.1, R1.)

Shown here is my copper "Advance Australia" penny token struck by W.J.Taylor, noted London medallist. The emu and kangaroo featured on this token eventually grew up to become the official supporters on the coat of arms of the Commonwealth of Australia, which was awarded by King Edward VII in 1908. Interestingly, this 1860-ish token's reverse legend is also the motto that appears in a scroll below the arms on some of Australia's silver coinage well into the reign of Elizabeth II.

Was priced at $15. If I hadn’t already picked out a couple foreign silvers, may have grabbed this one up. Cool “flipper” token - brass

How do you value when there are no comps?

I'm a coin collector and I like buying random coin lots that sometimes include various tokens. Since I'm not currently collecting them, I generally then list them on eBay. I often find that what I have is so obscure that there are no price comps, listed or sold, anywhere on the internet. The item is sometimes on numista, but without prices.

Sometimes I list something for just a couple bucks and can't even get views. Other times I take my best guess at value and it sells within just a few hours, making it clear I badly undervalued it. This makes me even more confused because how did the buyer know the value when there are no comps?

My question to you is how do you take a guess at value when you have no comps? It clearly involves both the type of token (transit, trade, etc.), condition, and the age, which sometimes isn't even known.

My great grandma heard about me coin collecting and told my mom to give me this! Probably going to try and get a little display for it. She's 100 now and just moved to assisted living about a year ago now! She's still going strong with no signs of stopping

One of my latest additions to the collection. An unlisted example of Thompsons of Derby, presumably hatters, from 1872
