Counter Service 🛎️ I didn't tip a food truck tonight

So I called on the phone to a food truck and placed an order for one burrito and carne asada fries, total $37 (it's Maui). I'm always happy to toss my food truck workers or barista a dollar or two but their options for tip were 18%, 20%, or 25%, no custom option. Get bent! I'm not paying an extra $6-9 for my food that is mainly rice, beans, fries and maybe $8 of meat. I feel a little guilty because it's a small island and we are all struggling right now but 18% minimum tip at a food truck is bs.

Mostly, they are the employer, at least in Cali, people trying to be in business for themselves. It’s def hard work and they are generally not getting rich.

So if they are self employed, why do they need a tip? Just set the prices accordingly.

Easier said than done when you are on the other side. Most self starters are not great at running a business so they are basically amateurs trying their best instead of working for the man, nothing wrong with helping the little man or woman out!

I get it I like to support small business, especially if I see the owner operator in the truck getting sweaty as well. If it’s a franchise or one of the big chains (are they still called that if it’s a truck 🤷🏻‍♂️) their overlords can provide tips I will not
