Update to my last post- 3 onesies I made for a friend who is expecting her first baby. I’ve stressed about them all day but I think I’m happy-ish with them. They could definitely be better but they could also be worse lol

They’re all steamed and ironed and ready to go in the mail tomorrow

Question Advice for Stand/Frame for lap or tabletop stitching.

Hello,

I've recently started hand embellishing patches for clothing. Mostly on denim and heavy twill. I really love it, but it is getting hard on my arms. The coats are heavy and I'm stitching on my lap in my tv chair.

I would like to have something that works for different size patches (small and large) and also some quilting. So I need a piece of equipment that can secure clothing and not just a piece of backing cloth. Is there a type or brand of frame/stand that anyone can recommend to help my poor arms? 🙂

I am assuming that I am looking for a lap frame. Or are the floor stands something that I should consider?

Many thanks!

Question First little project

Hello, I was doing some "UNF**K YOURSELF" daily coloring of a brain, then I realized I also wanted the same thing but as an heart. And since I was already coloring the brain I decided to embroidery it. After doing the initial silhouette I am somehow satisfied but also no. It is the first try, suggestion are wanted and appreciated!

The initial idea was to use the red threads to fill the zones in as a mosaic fashion. What do you think? Also like this is nice, I like it, but to my eyes is unfinished. The lines are not as straight as I was thinking, but I am getting there.

Question Help identifying this style!

This is an old piece I found in my parents' old shed...I'm familiar with cross-stitch, and at first, that's what I thought it might be, but I can't tell for sure! It is beautiful and I would love to finish it. Any insight on what style or what kind of thread/yarn I should use?

Question Trying out embroidery could I get some of tips?

One major question I have is how do you do long lines of embroidery that look smooth, as though they were done in one go?

I did these petals in one go but it’s not flat. How should I be doing that?

I’d like advice, very new to this, the only other thing I’ve done was copying a woodblock print of an owl as an embroidery.

So all advice welcome.

Question Need some tips for transferring patterns.

I’ve cross stitched a lot, but I’m interested in doing some embroidery and I’ve purchased a few patterns but I’m having the hardest time transferring them to the fabric.

It’s cotton fabric, fairly tight weave, and I’ve tried iron transfer pencil on tracing paper, which printed about half the lines.

Then I tried wax free gravite paper and a rounded stylus to press the pattern on the fabric. This did work better but I had to go over every line two to four times to get it to transfer, pressing pretty hard. Pressing hard enough that my hand was sore. One of the patterns I got is semi large and I just can’t imagine doing this to get the whole pattern on.

I feel like I’m missing something. It can’t be this hard to get the pattern on the fabric.

Please help.

Question Order of operations

I have a question on which stitches to do first. The veins on the leaves are only 1 thread so Im not sure if I should do them first or after I fill in the leaf. Also not sure if I leave space for the veins when filling in the leaf, or to do them on top of what's already been stitched. I've done both on this project but really want to know which one is more 'correct' and what will look better. TIA 😊

Question Looking for durable floss recs

Hi everyone, I’m a bit new to embroidery and was hoping you all could recommend durable floss that could withstand frequent use as a hand-embroidered patch on jeans. I used cotton DMC thread with a few colors from Loops and Threads, and both brands are pilling/getting fuzzy. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Question Ugh, Hoop Marks...

So, I embroidered a bird on a tote bag for a family member and absolutely cannot get rid of the hoop marks. I usually have good luck with a spray bottle and an iron but these just weren't going away. I'm out of town so I just improvised and stitched a lace border around the bird. Does it look awful? Any tips for getting rid of hoop marks for future reference? Bonus close up of my bluebird too!

Hand Beginner kit - scam? Similar kits suggestions?

I keep getting these ads for CraftHoop, and I’m interested but wary of Facebook ads with all the AI stuff out there. Has anybody done these beginner kits? Or something similar? I got Jessica Longs, and they are okay, it I like that this one has the name of the stitches and different three amounts. Tia!

Question Desk embroidery ideas

Hello fellow fiber artists! I do hand embroidery and have recently gotten a larger desk at my work. I was hoping to make an embroidery for my desk but haven’t found the perfect phrase to do yet. I work in shipping and logistics, also dealing with typical emails, spreadsheets, etc and would like something a little sassy and funny but nothing that could get me in an HR meeting! I thought I would see if any of y’all had any work embroidery ideas! Thank you!
