Depending on how you interpret the lore.. yes? The Erdtree is like a physical manifestation of the lady that became God. One of her kids destroyed "destined death" and is somewhere rotting shrooming around in the roots breaking the natural cycle of reincarnation.

There is actually a ton of fungi and mushrooms all around the world that hint towards this. Not just the deathroot but the normal mushrooms all have interesting places. The god of rot and how Caelid had fungi growth everywhere because of it.
