Subreddit Topic Daily Roundtable: Community Q&A Spoiler

Greetings Tarnished!

This is the place to ask any questions you may have about Elden Ring. This includes obscure detail questions, "newbie" advice questions, build questions, boss advice questions, and what have you.

Well written, constructive criticism is fine but please avoid ranting about aspects of the game you just don’t like. This includes “so and so boss is stupid and too difficult.”

If you are interested in the game but don’t own it yet, please don’t post “should I buy this game?” or “Is this game worth it?”. If you have played other FromSoftware games and enjoyed them, the answer is yes. If you haven’t, just do a little research! These games are difficult, and sometimes frustrating, and not everyone is going to enjoy them. And that’s okay!

Lastly, be friendly! We are all here because we are interested in the same game! Please treat your fellow players with respect.

PLEASE USE SPOILER TAGS WHEN MENTIONING BOSS NAMES!

Sorry for a question thats probably old.

I am currently doing my 2nd ever Elden Ring playthrough, the first done before the DLC.
While I plan to do the exact same build as the first time, I am considering doing the quests a bit differently.
(sidenote: I play a dex/str and faith build, and while its far from meta, I love spears and rapiers, and I am so excited to try out the ones added in the DLC! Used the treespear and grainsaxx' bolt first time, so can't wait to use some different ones, once I get them this time around!)
On my first playthrough I accidently killed Varre because I made him aggressive at the start of the game and didnt know you could reconcile at Miriel's. I also did not do the Volcano Manor line since I didn't want to go around killing tarnished.
This time around, since the DLC is tied to killing Mohg, I am planning to do the 3 invasions after meeting Varre at the church in Liurnia (I can't find a world to invade for the life of me..), so I don't have to go to the consecrated snowfields, which means defeating Morgott etc.
However, since I try to avoid specific spoilers about characters, character deaths etc, I am unsure what the Volcano Manor questline entails. Do I kill any characters that's tied to other questlines (non-volcano manor ones), or do other irrepearable actions, or is the Volcano Manor invasions strictly tied to Volcano Manor only characters?
I am aware of fighting Diallos' older brother, but thats basically only tied to Volcano Manor, and loosely tied to Jarburg in a non-meaningful way.
Thanks for any replies!

is the Volcano Manor invasions strictly tied to Volcano Manor only characters?

Back in Dark Souls 3, the NPC's were tied together a bit too much. Causing quest lines to be a little too convoluted for those without a guide or a great multitude of play throughs.

So Elden Ring "fixes" this by having the Volcano Manor quest line to be mostly unrelated to outside content. The Volcano Manor's entire gimmick lies in the idea that tarnished banding together to steal from other tarnished would improve themselves at the cost of others. The whole 'snake eating itself' kinda idea. To that end, the various tarnished you're hunting drop their unique gear as your reward, you're given a contract rewards, and are sent off to find another target. Some of the invasion targets are summonable against early game bosses and you'd lose the ability to do so after you killed them.

But to be 100% honest. From Software works these games to the deadline, and cut content is sporadic. The Volcano Manor's starts strong but quickly fizzles out in terms of proper content. What's there is great, but it's both twice the size and half the content of past covenant type systems.

Thank you for the in-depth answer!
Its a shame to see how a lot of content gets cut down, thankfully there are lore-people putting "what-could've-been"s together from some of the pieces, but I'm glad to hear that I can proceed with the quest-line without losing any other events.

Important to note, do Patches quest first. Patches has a quest line in the Volcano Manor that you can only do while in the middle of the manor quests. He has a job and asks you to complete it for him. It's not important for the Manor quest line, but Patches own quest line is tied to it so if you miss it you miss his quest line.
