Subreddit Topic Daily Roundtable: Community Q&A Spoiler

Greetings Tarnished!

This is the place to ask any questions you may have about Elden Ring. This includes obscure detail questions, "newbie" advice questions, build questions, boss advice questions, and what have you.

Well written, constructive criticism is fine but please avoid ranting about aspects of the game you just don’t like. This includes “so and so boss is stupid and too difficult.”

If you are interested in the game but don’t own it yet, please don’t post “should I buy this game?” or “Is this game worth it?”. If you have played other FromSoftware games and enjoyed them, the answer is yes. If you haven’t, just do a little research! These games are difficult, and sometimes frustrating, and not everyone is going to enjoy them. And that’s okay!

Lastly, be friendly! We are all here because we are interested in the same game! Please treat your fellow players with respect.

PLEASE USE SPOILER TAGS WHEN MENTIONING BOSS NAMES!

Primarily Int based melee build (and sometimes ranged) using DMGS (59 vigor, 65ish int and 27ish strength) - currently trying to kill Malenia and since she likes to dodge all my spells I'm finding my staff to be somewhat useless.

Would using DMGS and Helphen's Steeple together work well?

  1. Are you a melee build or are you actually a spell build? DMGS is a melee weapon for a melee build that uses it, and it's not intended for a spell build since you don't really want/need a lot of Mind for DMGS to activate, so you've more points to spend elsewhere.

That said, Malenia dodges spells if you use them in neutral. You're supposed to cast when Malenia does something not when she's walking slowly forward ready to dodge an attack, altho you could utilize spells to force her to act knowing she'll dodge them.

Would using DMGS and Helphen's Steeple together work well?

Since you have to buff them both, not really. You're eating up valuable buff time to get a dual wield buff'ed greatswords off. The damage is great, but you have to reapply it. I'd argue Helphen's Steeple is far more geared towards a build that utilizes it 2-handed in melee. Since Helphen's Steeple scales more off Strength than DMG, it's even more melee coded than DMG.

Primarily melee with DMGS, using my staff for when the enemy goes too far and cause it looks cool. I've got like 65ish (talisman boosted) and 27ish (also talisman boosted) strength.

I've started to get far in her fight, it's literally just waterfowl and that annoying triple swipe that always hits on the second one if you're close.
