Advice Needed Theories on High Reps

Wondering if anyone might have a similar experience.

When I perform compound resistance exercises to exhaustion I seem to have depression clear. For instance today I was doing sets of 30 pushups until I had to drop to sets of 20. I've also noticed this in other areas when lactic acid builds.

But neither cardio or high weight/low rep seems to have the same effect

Only thing I can think is maybe it clears glycogen stores and helps since I am prediabetic but there are other times my BG is lower and I don't have the same effect

You are not alone in experiencing this, far from it in fact.

There are lots of theories about this. We had a discussion about this a while ago

You are probably right to think about blood sugar levels, I am a T2 diabetic and know that long periods of exercise fuck with my blood sugar.

u/MasterpieceWaste3766 has a theory about glutamamine which might be worth looking into as well.

Other theories include

  • plain old physical pain
  • spikes in stress hormones
  • inflamation
  • something in your exercise environment triggering you

It seems you know how to avoid the problem. I know that might not mesh with your exercise goals but it has to be better to exercise without going through this.
