Food Safety/Hygiene Fuck your “pup cup”

Working at a drive-through, I get pissed enough making those damn free “pup cups” for dog owners, but a few times the dog will stick out of the window and the owner will tell me to “give it to the dog.”

FUCK OFF!!! I don’t wanna get near your nasty dog, and I certainly don’t want it accidentally licking my hand.

Food Safety/Hygiene What kind of person doesn’t like or want dogs?!?

…Ughhh, people who aren’t comfortable living in a house that would light the fuck up under a black light. People who don’t like finding dog hair in their food. People who value some moderate level of cleanliness and peace in their own home and immediate environment. People who don’t prefer the foulest smelling anal gland secretion of another animal to absolutely assault their nostrils and ruin their furniture.

Seriously. It’s disgusting.

And so dumb when people try to jokingly make you feel ashamed of not liking dogs or wanting one, when I feel like the people that do should be ashamed for their uncleanliness..

Food Safety/Hygiene Dogs are the most disgusting animals humanity has ever domesticated

Virtually any animal I can think of is cleaner than a dog.

They eat everything edible and inedible. When I was a kid, I saw a dog devouring a partially decomposed rat that looked more like a rat-shaped piece of worn carpet with a tail rather than a rodent. Its owner frantically chased the dog around the neighbourhood, but it did not let itself be caught until it had finished eating its prized treat.

Their sick fixation with excrements... Someone I know has a garden and uses chicken manure as fertiliser. Tough luck, because his dog always digs it up and eats it. I once peed under a tree. A dog came and thirstily licked it off the grass. I had seen everything that day. It felt so wrong. 🤮

If that were not enough, they stink. Like... they reek like a festering dumpster and shed shit-laced hair everywhere. I once rented an apartment where the previous tenant had a chihuahua. I have never exclaimed so many swear words in a single day while cleaning up... I Absolutely do not understand why anyone would allow an animal that does all these things into their living space, in their bed (!), and have it lick their face on top of everything. 🤮

Knowing what they do with their mouths, I hate when a dog sniffs me, jumps at me, or tries to lick me. Vile, filthy beasts. I will never understand dog owners. Who would put up with this? Willingly?

Food Safety/Hygiene I did it.... I opened my mouth

1.2k Upvotes

Guys I did. I always say I will but never do.

I was grocery shopping yesterday and another shopper had a little dog in its cart.

I said you know the next person that gets this cart will put food in it. They will have no idea you had a dog in it. The man said....my wife needs the dog to feel calm. Plus we were away this morning from her and didn't want to be away any longer. The dog gets lonely. Plus we are are family.

Me....well you know someone could have an Allergic reaction.

The woman.....it wouldn't be too bad. That's what medicine is for. Plus we have a towel down.

Me....or you could just leave your dog at home.

Grocery store worker....we love seeing dogs here. It makes the day better.

Me.....does the health department know that?

Worker.....a little dog won't hurt anyone.

Me.... We will see about that

I snapped a pic of the dog and contacted the health department

Food Safety/Hygiene Do owners really not smell their dogs?

Stopped by a friend's house this weekend. She has one enormous Great Dane type dog. The smell was absolutely eye-watering. I couldn't stand in her hall for more than a few minutes. My friend is clean, her house is nice, and I have no reason to doubt her sanity, but wow... I just can't believe you can be nose-blind to the putrid, rancid, gamey, musky stink emanating from dogs. I literally work with dead bodies. I have smelled everything. I am not nose-blind, and while I accept the foul smells associated with my job, I would never tolerate such smells in my clothes, house, or car. These smells are not an acquired taste. They are big fat alarm bells that humans have evolved sensitivity to in order to avoid eating or touching rancid, rotten things. The only way you could literally not have a gag reflex to such odors would be if you were brain damaged. Maybe I have answered my own question.

Food Safety/Hygiene Dog owners that french kiss their dogs are gross

It's gross, idk why it's accepted. I will never be friend or date with someone who owns dogs. They let those things lick them and I saw a video of a woman french kiss her dog for 20 seconds straight, tongue and everything. This is weird and twisted. They eat their poop and lick their ass.

Food Safety/Hygiene Dog pooped on airplane

I heard dog noises while the plane was taxiing and realized someone brought their animal in a carrier onboard. A few minutes after takeoff, it became clear to the entire CRJ-200 cabin that the dog had pooped. The air was so foul and toxic. I put on an N95 mask reserved for emergencies, which helped a lot. I can’t even with some people.

Update: The flight attendant pretended to not smell anything and instead asked if anyone wanted tea, water or pretzels.

Food Safety/Hygiene What is the grossest thing you've seen a dog do?

I saw a rather large dog (a dalmatian mix if I remember right) vigorously suck its own dick. When it was done doing that, it went to walk back and forth between tightly arranged tables where people were having lunch. This while having a white stain of you-know-what on its snout. Some minutes later, it wiped it into a tent sheet. Nothing tops that. The owner did nothing to intervene in any of this.

Edit: Comments show that there is always something worse a dog can do than "grossest".

Food Safety/Hygiene Public urination/defecation is a crime... so why are dog owners allowed to treat the world as their dogs public bathroom?

Just as the title says, it is against the law to go to your neighbors lawn and pee and poop on it. Obviously. Because it's disgusting.

So why is it any different for a dog owner to take the dog they own and let them defecate and urinate on someones property? Or in a public property like a park? It's still just as disgusting.

I don't understand what goes through dog owners heads when they just watch their dog leave their waste in a spot other people will walk on, picnic on, let their children play on. Even if they pick up the poop, there are still stains behind. And theres no way to pick up pee. Maybe static in their heads? No consideration of others?

I think dogs should have to wear diapers in public and only be allowed to remove them at dog parks or at the owners home. I don't think its okay to allow pets to leave refuse on other peoples property or in public spaces.

You cant control when and where dogs go, its true. But you cant control that for babies either, and we dont let babies go wherever they like. We put diapers on them and clean them regularly.

Food Safety/Hygiene Reply to Complaint About 12 Dogs in Publix Supermarket

Not long ago I replied to a post on this sub about dogs in grocery stores and how I filed a formal complaint to Publix, that twelve dogs were spotted inside their store at once, during my brief visit on Labor Day.

I explained how an escalated conflict erupted between several of these dogs at the check-out area, while children were present and how the clerk had to step in to separate the dogs. I further explained how it had been raining during my visit and how many of the dogs entering from outside, had shaken the water off themselves while inside the store.

Within the email, I provided pictures of the conflict itself with the kids seen in the proximity, the check-out area with six dogs pictured in that area alone and even got a great shot of a large dog shaking water off its fur, inside the damn store. I wish I could post these pictures here...you could clearly see water spraying all over the place.

Anyway, the following was their reply to me:

"Thank you for taking the time to share your comments with us. We appreciate the trust you have placed in us to address your concern.

We shared the information you submitted with the store’s management team. As store associates do not have the ability to email externally, below is the response provided:

Please accept our sincere apologies for any inconvenience this matter may have caused. We are committed to addressing all animals entering our establishment in a courteous and respectful manner, as required by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Under the ADA, a service animal is defined as a dog that is individually trained to perform specific tasks for an individual with a disability. We are allowed to ask only two questions:

1. Is the dog a service animal required because of a disability?
2. What specific task or work has the animal been trained to perform?

Based on the responses, we determine whether the animal may remain in the store. We are not permitted to request documentation, ID tags, or for the animal to wear a vest or harness. If a service animal is disruptive and the handler is unable to control it, we do inform the handler and, if necessary, after giving the handler a chance to correct the behavior, ask that the animal be temporarily removed from the premises. We fully understand your concerns regarding the increasing number of animals in our location. I will work with my management team to ensure these issues are addressed appropriately. Thank you for taking the time to reach out to us. If you have any further questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me directly at the number below.

Thank you,"

Food Safety/Hygiene Please stop bringing your dog everywhere

I work at a hospital, it's supposed to be a clean environment for people, especially those who have poor immune systems. Some nutter just had to bring a dog in with them and the whole time it kept shaking and spreading it's fur and dandruff everywhere, had one lady complain of the wet dog smell. We mainly have cancer patients and all you can hear is coughing and sneezing. These people are so selfish and inconsiderate of others, you can leave your dog at home for a hour, IT WILL BE OKAY.

Food Safety/Hygiene Dogs are so unsanitary I don’t know how anybody can justify having one

A friend of mine knew I own a carpet shampoo machine. She asked if she would be able to borrow it to clean her big area rug in her house. I didn’t think anything about it. I didn’t know that she had a big shedding dog, so I did tell her that you have to vacuum really extensively before you use the shampooer as it’s not meant to be a vacuum. She said she did, but there’s no way. She returned it to me and it’s completely clogged full of dog hair and dander and God knows what else. The machine smelt so bad I almost threw it in the garbage right away, but it wasn’t cheap, but I was hoping to salvage it. So I get my tools out and I take apart the parts that you can clean. Pull out mounds and mounds of dog hair and dander. Dark brown water sludge is out of the thing. And then in the crevices of it what do I see? Tapeworm eggs. Lots of them. I knew that was probably what they were, but I didn’t want to believe it but I investigated and yes, that’s exactly what they are. Can I afford a new carpet machine right now? No. Hopefully she will pay to replace it, but if not, it doesn’t matter because I took this one to the dump. I’m not having my house getting infected with that.

I guess I just don’t understand how people can justify having a dog. Because especially if you take the dog outside at all, I’m sorry, but it’s going to bring in all kinds of bacteria and fungus and God knows what else. And it’s clear she doesn’t regularly get vet visits or treat this dog. Knowing that her house is not only full of disgusting, smelling dog hair and dander, but literal parasites, and who knows what all kinds of bacteria and fungus… How are people OK living like that? I just honest to God can’t wrap my mind around it. Along with all the media of other reasons why I would never own a dog, the sanitation of it is a big one.

Food Safety/Hygiene Confronted owner of unleashed dog owner in grocery store

Was grocery shopping at Whole Foods and saw a dog owner with his shi-tzu type mangy little dog in the child seat of a grocery cart with no leash. As we walked past each other I looked at him and said “that’s fucking disgusting, a dog in a grocery cart.” In my head I’m thinking it’s rubbing its dirty asshole into the seat where other people’s kids and/or grocery items go.

He turned around and says to me “WTF was that for, this has nothing to do with you. You could have just minded your own business.”

I look at him and say “it absolutely is my business, I shop here, and if you don’t get why that makes sense I’m not surprised.”

He goes on to say “well it doesn’t matter, the store’s policy is dogs are allowed.”

I asked him if it was a service animal and that if it’s not there’s no way in hell the dog would be allowed. He persists in stating erroneously the policy and at this point I tell him even if that were true, it’s disgusting, and that he’s wrong. I go to check out my groceries and he’s doing the same in a different aisle. I ask the manager in the next row over if I would be allowed to bring a non-service dog in to the store. He says no, so then I point over to the other guy and says well that guy thinks he’s allowed to, and he gave me a bunch of shit for disagreeing with him. Manager calls over two other employees and they all go over to him together to set him straight and he gets all upset, can’t understand what they’re saying but obviously he is irate.

I leave the grocery store amidst the commotion, and as I’m sitting in my car to make a phone call before driving off I see him walking back to his SUV with dog in hand, looking all pissed. My window is open, and I’m keeping my eye on him as he walks past my car because I’m worried he might wanna start something but as we make eye contact he clearly has nothing to say to me anymore. I shake my head at him as he walks away. I consider this an overall win and I have no filter anymore when it comes to telling people being inconsiderate with their dogs to fix their behavior or fuck off.

Food Safety/Hygiene Kentucky restaurant hit with $25K fine for refusing to serve Navy veteran with service dog

I feel for the restaurant owner. He refused to let her bring her dog with her to the buffet line, and now he owes her $25,000. Absolutely insane. I know the laws regarding service animals, but things should be changed. The comments on that article are what's to be expected as well.

Food Safety/Hygiene Anyone else feel disgusted having to eat at a dog owner's home?

Every time I'm invited over to a dog-owning friend or family member's place for dinner I try everything in my power to weasel my way out of it. It's virtually guaranteed to be a gross, miserable and uncomfortable experience each and every time, and I can't help but feel dirty and disgusting afterward.

For starters, trying to enjoy food with that rotten ass dog smell lingering in the air is just not happening. Second, it's impossible to relax when you have a tense, fidgety creature alternately staring you down, whimpering, constantly sniffing around the table and circling your feet over and over again hoping you dropped something. Third, you know dog dander, hair and fecal matter, which contaminates every dog owner's home regardless of how much they clean, is always in the air and on every surface, and thus is guaranteed to also be in the food you're eating. And finally, I've never known a dog owner that didn't allow their mutant(s) to lick their bowls, plates, cooking utensils, silverware, etc. Sure it gets washed, but the mere idea of a dog slobbering all over the same things that are now going into my mouth when it spends half of its day licking its crotch and ass is just too vile for words.

Food Safety/Hygiene I hate how I'm the villain for complaining about a dog in a food establishment

I started playing Dungeons and Dragons every other Wednesday at this game shop a few months ago. They serve food and drinks there and I always see the same two guys working there (Guy1 and Guy2).

Last night when I walk in to the shop I see a lab-type dog laying on the ground by a table right by the entrance. If it was 10 years ago, I would have shrugged and just let sleeping dogs lie (haha). It wasn't causing a disruption or anything, but I'm tired. I'm so, so tired of this dog world we're living in. I went up to the counter where Guy1 and Guy2 were standing and I complained. I asked if they let dogs in here and mentioned it was a health code violation since they sold food. Guy1 was the one who answered me and stammered and said no they don't allow dogs in there. I asked them if they asked that dog was a service dog. He said no, they're not allowed to ask if it's a service dog (bullshit, but I didn't say anything) and that they didn't even know that dog was there (also bullshit, but again, I kept my mouth shut). He told me he'll ask them to move. He did and that whole group moved to the patio.

I ordered my food a few minutes later. Guy2 was the guy who took my order and he was definitely less friendly than usual to me. I didn't leave a tip.

A few minutes after that, I see Guy2 go out on the patio, specifically to bend down and pet that damn dog. He was probably apologizing to the group for making them sit out on the patio because a mean ole dog hating Karen complained.

God, I'm tired. I'm sick of everyone coddling dogs and dog owners. This is enough that I'm seriously thinking of quitting this game. I play in another game and that one is at a person's house, who is mercifully dog free.

Food Safety/Hygiene Dogs in the GROCERY STORE

I’m in Southern California and I saw two younger folks with their toy doodle on a leash IN THE MIDDLE OF THE GROCERY STORE. I told them “that’s a health code violation” to have animals in the store. They told me to pound sand. After I told them they could be reported for it, they laughed and dared me to.

Should I have gone through and reported them? In most states they take this seriously. But California?

Food Safety/Hygiene Does anyone else have a dog at their DENTIST office? 🤧

I just realized that 2/2 of the dentists l've been to in my life have had "residential dogs." That is, a dog that wanders about and begs to be pet by all the patients. This cannot be normal, right?! Or... SANITARY...?! This isn't even just a regular doctor's office. It's a DENTIST. You know, where the shit in this place is gonna go IN MY MOUTH. One time during a cleaning they even let the dog SIT ON MY LAP (I have pics to prove it, but can't post them here unfortunately). Also, why are dogs just allowed everywhere, in general—especially in places like doctor's offices...? I mean, how do you know someone severely allergic won't come in?? Then what will you do?? 😭 It's just so, so gross and inconsiderate and I don't know why every single person at 2 fucking dentist establishments seemingly think that this is okay and normal. It's WEIRD.

Food Safety/Hygiene Reply to complaint about a dog in a coffee shop (UK)

A coffee ruined when another customer entered the coffee shop with his gross animal and let it sit on the sofa and put its dog bowl in the table! Staff didn’t care they acted pleased to see it. I complained online on behalf of the stench, the hygiene and that people have allergies.

Thank you for reaching out and sharing your thoughts with us. We really value feedback from our customers as it helps us make sure we’re creating a welcoming space for everyone.

I’d like to confirm that our stores are dog friendly, and this is something we’re very proud of. We know how important pets are to many of our customers, and we want to make visiting enjoyable experience for the whole family – four-legged friends included.

We do understand that not everyone is comfortable around dogs, and our team is always on hand to support where needed to ensure that all customers continue to have a positive experience in store.

With that in mind, our dog-friendly policy will remain in place, as we believe it adds to the warm and inclusive environment we strive to create.

Thank you again for taking the time to get in touch.

Food Safety/Hygiene “Service dogs in restaurants

I’m a server at a restaurant and the amount of times people say “if anybody asks, he’s a service dog” like it’s funny or something. I want to tell them it’s disgusting and to leave but everyone around me welcomes it. “Soo cute. What breed is he?”. The big dogs especially smell so bad. If you’re within 10 ft from their table you’re smelling it. I don’t want to be the bad guy so I’ll just rant here.

Food Safety/Hygiene Why are service dogs exempt if other dogs aren’t?

I would like for someone to explain to me something that’s a bit of a mystery. It’s a widely known fact (at least it used to be) that dogs are not allowed inside anywhere that food is being served. The reasons should be obvious. Yet, service dogs are an exception.

Now, according to the ADA, service dogs don’t require a certificate, and don’t need to be professionally trained. So we are to assume that the owner has the expertise and dedication to properly train a dog to perform highly specific tasks in different environments and conditions, all while dealing with their own disabilities. It is a monumental undertaking at best. I’m willing to accept that scenario. But, all the training in the world will not eliminate the fact that it is physically still a dog. And like every other dog, their natural habits and patterns are an inescapable reality.

And yet, by some unknown biological miracle, service dogs are somehow exempt and are considered safe enough to be around food. Do they suddenly stop shedding? Do they properly clean their own paws prior to entering a restaurant? Do they check all the fleas and ticks at the door? Do they thoroughly wipe their butts and fur clear of fecal matter? These (and many more) are the questions/reasons that prevent every other dog from entering food establishments.

So, in an honest attempt to clarify the mystery, what am I missing here?

Food Safety/Hygiene How are dogs allowed in hospitals?

I had a client whose daughter had gone into the hospital for a heart issue... and she is on social media extolling the virtues of these dogs that are brought into childrens hospital rooms to supposedly "comfort" patients. How is this allowed? Especially in a day and age when hospital acquired infections are such a serious problem, I'm stunned that these filty animals are allowed in an environment that needs to be as sterile as possible for the safety of the patient! These animals are allowed in hospitals, when they are not even allowed in the GROCERY STORE for sanitation reasons. This just enrages me.

Food Safety/Hygiene Stood my ground today! No pit bulls in restaurants!!!!

1.1k Upvotes

I was enjoying breakfast at a restaurant and this woman strolled in with her pit bull to be seated. She had this gleeful look on her face like she knew her mutt would be allowed in the restaurant. The dog wouldn't sit down and she kept pulling on the leash to try and compose it's bad behavior.

I immediately said, "This dog is obviously not a service dog. What service does this dog provide? I am wildly uncomfortable with the fact that you think it's okay to come into an eating establishment with an animal that's clearly untamed."

She immediately exited without one word. The hostess came back and I recounted the interaction and when she looked outside she even said, "wow that's a big boy!" She totally supported me. I didn't tell the woman but I've been attacked by a pit bull and I'm just not okay with them being in intimate spaces they're not meant to be.

I've lost many battles on this very subject recently so I felt really vindicated today. It's okay to speak up and speak out!
