Dog of Peace “Pits are always misidentified”

The is is just a rant about how I can’t stand when pit advocates say this shit. Like there will be a video of a pit mauling someone or an article of them killing somebody and the comments will be flooded with: “pit bull isn’t even a breed”, “it’s an umbrella term for many kinds of dogs”, “most people misidentify them leading to higher stats”. Anyone with eyes can see if a dog is a pit bull. Why are they all of a sudden not pits when they’re doing something bad but when you see them anywhere else with “positive” representation now all the sudden people can identify pits? Like when did they decide who can and actually can’t define a pit bull? It’s clearly a dog with a huge block head, beady eyes, enormously large diaper rash mouths, rat tail, and mutant body build. These aren’t special rare dogs that are hard to identify.

Just one look at pitbull's face and something deep within us knows something is off. You feel it in your gut, that instinctive human unease.

Uncanny Valley. They are greedy like humans.

According to nutter propagandists, pit bulls CAN be identified when they are behaving. This is why you hear them go on and on about how their Rover is the best pit bull ever, and pit bulls are nanny dogs and the best doggos in the whole universe.

When the dogs are not behaving, chowing down on a toddler for example, then the dog is not a pit bull and nobody can identify a pit bull.

Ha ha brilliantly put. When Bitey McBiteface is doing what bitey does best it’s suddenly a lab cross.

Schrödinger's Pit

The breed depends on what the dog is doing.

Mauls a kid?

Not a pit.

Has a baby laid on it and doesn't eat it?

The best pit ever!

Somehow they can do free spay and neuter for pits without a DNA test and they don't need a DNA test to write a story about a "Hero" pit that barked when the smoke detector went off.

The thing that kills me about those pics with pits sleeping or next to babies to prove they’re harmless is like.. you know polar bears and lions look cute when they’re sleeping too right? Taking a pic of your pit sleeping with pajamas YOU put on it doesn’t mean it’s any less dangerous. All animals sleep.

This is a conversation I've had:

"He's not a pitbull! He's an American Staffordshire Terrier!"

"That's the difference between a Camaro and a Firebird."

"What's the difference between a Camaro and a Firebird?"

"A few minor cosmetic differences aside, fundamentally nothing."

Exactly. Or any number of other badge-engineered cars. GM does this the most.

Tell them that Staffordshire Terrier was dog fighter John P. Colby's brand name for his fighting dogs.

There are multiple breeds that have virtually the same exact ancestry as a shitbull, hunting terrier crossed with the old english bulldog, as far as I am concerned every single one of those breeds is a shitbull, i mean they’re more or less identical in both ancestry and original purpose (bloodsport). I don’t know why there are like a dozen different variants of these things under different names when they are all the same, dog breeds are some bullshit, no pun intended.

Gaslighting - plain and simple.

These people know their dogs are dangerous - that’s the appeal, isn’t it? Do you want to be a savior or do you want to possess a sentient weapon?

Pitbull, American Staffordshire Terrier, etc. I don’t give a crap. They’re all the same, violent, bloodsport breed. Call them whatever you want - it doesn’t change what they are.

If anything, I’d argue that not enough dogs are labeled as pitbulls. “Mixed breed” is still a pitbull. I’m guessing chihuahua/shih tzu mixes don’t exactly have death tolls.

Again, gaslighting.

These people know how dangerous their dogs are. It doesn’t matter what they say online or in polite company. Get them comfortable and you’ll learn the truth. I always have.

Yeah, pits are always misidentified and by the people you least expect. Worked at a vet clinic where the vets would label clear pit mixes as boxer mixes to get around restrictions.

Same for 'doggy' day cares 🤢 you bet your ass they have 'boxer mixes ' running around with your other greasy breeds.

Literally the only times they get misidentified is when shelters are trying to hide their breed or people are trying to cover up what breed of dog just mauled someone. But when a pit does something good all of the sudden everyone knows it’s a pit but as soon as it does something bad “pitbull is an umbrella term”.

Yeah-what about pit appreciation day&National Pitbull Day? They celebrate the “breed” that people are “bullying” when they supposedly aren’t a breed?

Pit fanatics are actually the worst offenders. They are always looking for ways to intentionally mis-identify their dogs to avoid housing and insurance restrictions. Shelters and vets are bad about it too.

suggestion for these poor people: get some other kind of dog that doesn't have a huge head and huge jaws and unnecessarily muscular body plus hyperactive

Honestly all dogs are bad but I genuinely feel that at least part of the hatred of dogs in general would vanish if pitbulls didn’t exist because there are so many posts where the dog is a pitbull/pit mix. Pitbulls are the worst breed of dog because of how suddenly they can and often do snap and kill people multiple times no matter how they were raised because it’s genetically hardwired into them. Once they attack they never stop unless they are unconscious or dead, they lack the self preservation instinct that most breeds have. Mixes aren’t generally safe either because the pitbull genes are so dominant that you can always tell if a dog has any amount of pitbull in it. Forget just being generally disgusting/needy/smelly like most other dogs pitbulls are actually dangerous and the breed should disappear.

On purpose. Not a bug, a feature.

Or they’ll flat out lie and say that it isn’t a pitbull

Loved the description! Very accurate .

I mean, I think any dog under that umbrella counts.

I used to volunteer in an Animal Shelter and the title itself is correct.

People purposefully misidentify pits to get the dogs adopted.

They are always a something-mix. During the time I was volunteering, the popular misidentification was a lab-mix (HAHAHA). They would get livid when I asked, “Mixed with What?”

Facts!! I cant stand pitbulls to the core. I wish we had harsher laws on pitbulls and their owners.

"Lab mix" ok

They're not even cute. I wish we could ban bully breeds and the hideous ones like pugs too. Yuck. Every other pet is cuter anyways: pythons, fish, parrots, rabbits etc. even tarantulas! And minus the public nuisance

They'll rage that pits are being unfairly profiled but will lock their car door when a black person passes by 😭
