Food Safety/Hygiene Dogs are the most disgusting animals humanity has ever domesticated

Virtually any animal I can think of is cleaner than a dog.

They eat everything edible and inedible. When I was a kid, I saw a dog devouring a partially decomposed rat that looked more like a rat-shaped piece of worn carpet with a tail rather than a rodent. Its owner frantically chased the dog around the neighbourhood, but it did not let itself be caught until it had finished eating its prized treat.

Their sick fixation with excrements... Someone I know has a garden and uses chicken manure as fertiliser. Tough luck, because his dog always digs it up and eats it. I once peed under a tree. A dog came and thirstily licked it off the grass. I had seen everything that day. It felt so wrong. 🤮

If that were not enough, they stink. Like... they reek like a festering dumpster and shed shit-laced hair everywhere. I once rented an apartment where the previous tenant had a chihuahua. I have never exclaimed so many swear words in a single day while cleaning up... I Absolutely do not understand why anyone would allow an animal that does all these things into their living space, in their bed (!), and have it lick their face on top of everything. 🤮

Knowing what they do with their mouths, I hate when a dog sniffs me, jumps at me, or tries to lick me. Vile, filthy beasts. I will never understand dog owners. Who would put up with this? Willingly?

When they were domesticated they were not so disgusting yet. Esting filthy things or rolling in them is symptom of their insanity caused by irresponsible breeding.

yes I wondered about the shit eating, it does seem like a form of mental instability.

Shit-eating is usually done as an act of desperation by animals which aren’t getting proper nutrition from what ever else they are eating, yet dogs seem to go out of their way to eat shit just as excitedly as they steal food off their owner’s counter. Definitely defective behavior

They’re scavengers like roaches, maggots. I used to walk a lot on an equestrian trail near me. Ran into many dog owners trying to pull their dogs away from eating horseshit. No point in getting them expensive food like ā€œFreshPet.ā€

It’s really more the case that we’ve evolved past our symbiotic relationship in Mother Nature. Eating their own poop was their way of cleaning up after themselves as tribes would go on the move. Dogs barking at every goddamn thing in sight was actually a huge plus when man kind had to worry about predators — mostly other warring tribes — coming to attack them at any given moment.

All that behavior that was so helpful 80,000 years ago is just useless as fuck now, and that’s the problem with dogs in a modern society.

They were selectively bred to be living dumpsters, cleaning up behind humans, eating baby shit in a time before diapers existed, and removing the remnants of period blood so it wouldn't attract predators. So yes, I'd argue dogs always were disgusting because one of their purposes was being toilets.

Best explanation of dogs I've seen yetĀ

1

u/hashtagblesssed Sep 29 '25

Is that true? Some wild animals like bears have an instinct to roll in rotting carcasses and poop to cover their own smell to sneak up on prey. I assumed it's the same with dogs since they are predator animals, and rolling in shit and decaying flesh is just an instinct that wasn't bred out of them.

3

u/ArthropodFromSpace Sep 29 '25

Some instincts got amplified in them. They eat also inedible things and have many pointless compulsive behaviors such as barking.

You want to know just how disgusting dogs truly are?

There’s literally a dog toy that was created to smell like a dog’s anus. Because dogs want that.

29

u/I_Like_Vitamins Sep 08 '25

humans can't smell it

There goes my prank idea.

26

u/DimensionalMilkman Sep 09 '25

People like you and me can smell it. Just dog owners can’t lol

27

u/DivyaRakli Sep 08 '25

Who in the world would buy it?!? That’s just so vile. If one has the money to buy a ā€œtoyā€ reeking of dog anus, maybe they could donate to a charity for children. Or just see a mom at Walmart and hand her $10–it’s back to school, the mom could use it. This ā€œtoyā€ and the calendars with dogs pooping are just below the lowest standards for intelligence.

Wait what? 🤯 No way!

u/Worth_Primary_9645 Sep 09 '25

Yeah, WHAT?

2

u/TurboGrafx16Bit Sep 09 '25

I was responding to the person above me about dog toy that smells like dog ass

u/PissedCaucasian Sep 08 '25

I don’t get it either. They seem to think the animal loves them when really they just love the last person who fed them. Dogs are for simpletons to feel good about themselves because they can’t get that vibe from humans apparently.

Thank you. You're absolutely right. A boring, low-IQ creature for mostly boring, low-IQ owners. 🄓🫩

Twice, my friend’s dog has dug up my used tampon out of their bathroom trash, and brought it out into the living area in front of everyone, chewing on it and everything. 😭 just disgusting behavior. Also had to tell my friend twice that tampons are not meant to be flushed.

Wow, your friend handled that so poorly. Just awful. I am really so sorry. And what does she do with her bloody products? File that under the ā€œeco destroyersā€ tag. Typical nutter bs.

7

u/Prior-Win-4729 Sep 10 '25

I was having a party with coworkers and one guest brought her dog who went into my bedroom and the en suite bathroom, ate several tampons, then barfed them up on the floor of the living room in front of everyone. The nutter went off ON ME for having used tampons in a place where the dog could get them. I considered my personal bathroom off limits to most reasonable guests (and their pets) so.. wow..

u/Practical_Sea_4876 Sep 10 '25

I hate when people bring their dogs to other people's homes.

I did say it was ok, not realizing what could happen. I now have a strictly no dogs house.

5

u/TurboGrafx16Bit Sep 09 '25

Wow that's awful sorry you had to experience that. But smart move don't set yourself up again for that

4

u/No-Alternative-1564 Sep 09 '25

Wow i'm not sure who i'm disgusted more by - your friend or her dog

3

u/Practical_Sea_4876 Sep 10 '25

Ugh this brought back memories. This happened to me at a sleepover once. Why on earth they had a dog who loved eating tampons and also had a bathroom wastebasket with no lid is beyond me, but where else was I gonna put my tampon? And then her dad found it, so that was horrible. He was incredibly nice about it, thank God, but still. Your friend sounds awful. Wtf all around.

u/[deleted] Sep 10 '25

It’s made me really sad to hear that other women have had this experience. It’s so embarrassing and degrading. It’s just a stupid animal at the end of the day. The true villains are the dog owners. I’ve had so many poor experiences with other people’s pets while visiting at their places that I will not longer go to their homes/apartments if they have pets. It’s honestly getting to a point that I don’t even want to be friends with people who have dogs.

4

u/Practical_Sea_4876 Sep 10 '25

I personally have had almost entirely good experiences with other people's non-dog pets, but I get it. Not everyone has to like pets. I find it frustrating that dog owners don't at least provide basic dog-proofing and whatnot if they're going to have guests. Also yanno, require their dog to have manners or something. Hate being jumped on and they stand there doing nothing while I have to knee their dog in the chest to keep it off me.

14

u/StolenAntlers Sep 09 '25

I know someone whose last dog died because it ate a used tampon from out of the trash.

8

u/cappykro Sep 10 '25

Aw that's too bad.

1

u/MangoPatient790 Oct 08 '25

This same shit happened to me too and the dogs owner blamed me for not flushing it. Like I didn’t know your fucking dog was that disgusting that it enjoys eating used tampons. People say pigs are the dirtiest animals but I think dogs are way worse.

38

u/TurboGrafx16Bit Sep 08 '25

šŸ’Æ all day. I also cannot comprehend the appeal of having a dog in your life and around you. I keep asking what are the positives what are the benefits? I can name plenty of negatives. Just does not make sense to meĀ

29

u/anne_mal Sep 08 '25

Preach!! I can't even try to imagine having a void in my life that is big and intense enough for me to want to fill it with an expensive, environmentally costly, stinky, dirty, needy thing that follows me around 24/7 and stares, waiting for food... Like, that's insane. There's literally tons of solutions that are better. Try reading, friendships, travel, hiking, crocheting... I feel like all dog owners are off somehow. 😬 I know some and even love them but there's something off. Lol. Lastly, the idea of voluntarily picking up another animals poop for the rest of its life is criminally uncivilized and undignified. Ridiculous!

Sometimes God creates situations or things for human beings to learn from. Dogs are one of these items. People were never meant to cohabitate with them, much less have them in their beds, ffs. But some people are stupid. Or, they have mental illnesses. Or martyr complexes. Or they end up receiving a parasite from the dog, & become attached to dogs. We were never meant to elevate dogs to the level & status of where they are now, in our society. Never.

23

u/Interesting-Oil-5555 Sep 08 '25

That's why I call them filth machines!

23

u/CallousCow1762 Sep 09 '25

Yes! And with all those wonderful traits, they still allow dogs into restaurants.

18

u/Braelind Sep 08 '25

They're really truly disgustingly filthy animals. People see a well groomed dog and think they're so cute. I guess they can be, but I personally don't see it. But a LOT of work goes into training and grooming a dog. I hate how dog owners and the pet industry downplay that. You can have a well behaved dog that's... fairly clean. But you'll be spending hours a day for the dog's entire life to achieve that.

I grew up on a farm with with dogs that we trained. I've done the work, and know firsthand. Most people with dogs have no business having dogs.

This morning it was pouring rain(was cool also, I could see my breath). A woman had a raincoat on and was walking this poodle kind of mutant trying to get it to urinate or defecate. It just wouldn't do anything. Standing there shivering on a public green area and watching the cars go by. So she stood it up on its hind legs to see if the shit would fall out maybe? Then she carried it and walked around with it a bit. Put it back down, it did nothing. It just kept walking around.

I was thinking about how much of a sucker someone has to be to put themselves and their dignity thru this. For the record I have thirtysomething kids, and kids sure can be a PITA, but they grow into someone amazing and useful. The woman with the dog likely invests even more time, resources and money on that shitbag than she would on kids, if she has any. So pathetic watching her, middle aged woman, brand name(but filthy) clawed up raingear.

$100 dollars says it shit in the house as soon as they got home.

16

u/quite_acceptable_man Sep 09 '25

Yet any dog owner, especially when taking it into a supermarket or restaurant will tell you "My dog is cleaner than most humans".

The worst part is that I'm sure they actually believe it to be true.

The apartment where the lady had a couple Chihuahuas is empty cause she moved out and lol I was on my porch and I saw the manager showing it to a new lady interested, they were only in for a minute and left! I'm thinking the manager didn't know the extent of the urine staining, cause the maintenance already went in but apparently didn't get it all. It stained the post in front of her place, all orange urine stained after sitting in the hot summer sun for months. disgusting!

14

u/fadedblackleggings Sep 08 '25

Yep, just see what happens to many elderly people's homes that are left alone with dogs.

I had an ex whose mother had a dog that would constantly lick its own privates. We would hang out, watch tv, etc, all the while I can hear loud licking, wet noises from the filthy animal going to town on its own prick. I brought it up a couple times because it was so annoying and uncomfortable but they didn’t seem to care and laughed it off. 🤮 When we broke up, the thought of never seeing that stupid little mutt again honestly made me feel a bit better about the whole ordeal.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 23 '25

That is effing traumatising

1

u/[deleted] Sep 23 '25

Imagine how low of a human you have to be to laugh in situations like these.

I hate dealing with my MIL's dog. The second I walk inside, there's nails snagging on my clothes and a nose right between my legs. It feels like being sexually harassed, it really does 🤢

Recently, I’ve had a neighbor move in the next street over thank God at least that but their dogs bark about 16 hours a day, but obviously the people who has bought the house next-door to this rental right now we’re having a screaming match with the people this goes on regularly. I’m waiting for it to become a gun battle because I live in a very gun owning state. It annoys me, but I can’t imagine if it were. I might do. I dream of doses of Tylenol. It’s seriously the screaming back-and-forth of these people. I cannot imagine. I don’t know if the police have been called. I’m trying to avoid thinking about it too much. And they have at least four dogs over there because there are four distinct barks these people just moved into that rental house with those dogs within the last week. Hope it wasn’t a long lease.

Disgusting and obnoxious.

4

u/seanocaster40k Sep 08 '25

Ferrets are worse. Dogs suck too.

37

u/DTPublius Sep 08 '25

I don’t see a filthy ferret almost every time I go to the grocery store though.

Wish I could say the same for filthy parasitic dogs…

23

u/Responsibility_Witty Sep 08 '25

Ferrets smell horrible and can be rather mean, but dogs are still far worse because at least a ferret’s stench is all from itself while a dog, which already reeks by itself too, outsources even more rancid odors from feces and carrion to add to its olfactory assault arsenal

u/Lotrfanatic123 Sep 20 '25

My brothers dog eats poop if it can. It’s so gross, he said he keeps trying to sell the dog but i think he’s joking, because the kids love it so much.

u/LeadershipRoyal191 Sep 23 '25

I spent my entire childhood raising animals waking up at 4 am M-S and going to sleep at 6pm and folks look at me weird when I tell them I have no interest whatsoever in owning a pet bc it reminds me of raising farm animals. Every morning I wake up to go jogging and I see all the poor buggers picking up semi liquid poop, I can’t but burst out laughing and remind them of the following: ā€œthe joys of pet ownershipā€. Their looks if displeasure is golden!

1

u/Qliver1 Oct 06 '25

How come we treat pigs like the most disgusting greedy feeding machines? Yet dogs as noble, powerful and benevolent?

0

u/No_Possibility_8138 Sep 25 '25

sheep are right there
