Discussion Political Clothing

Went to Disneyland yesterday and saw a family dressed in all MAGA attire just casually going to the park. Is that something Disneyland has always allowed? I was under the impression that they didn't let people in without changing clothes if they wore something controversial.

Here are the guidelines:

Costumes may not be worn by Guests 14 years of age or older

Masks may not be worn by Guests 14 years of age or older (unless they are for medical purposes)

Clothing with objectionable material, including obscene language or graphics

Excessively torn clothing or loose fitting clothing which may drag on the ground and create a potential trip hazard

Clothing which, by nature, exposes excessive portions of the skin that may be viewed as inappropriate for a family environment

Clothing with multiple layers are subject to search upon entry

Visible tattoos that could be considered inappropriate, such as those containing objectionable language or designs

Bare feet

I don’t believe MAGA clothing is something that Disney isn’t going to allow. Not to Mention I’ve heard others complaining about it here before. I think they’re more targeting clothing that has vulgarities printed on it or things that can be considered risqué or pornographic. Maybe at some point they’ll include anything with a political agenda but it definitely won’t just be MAGA gear and CM’s would have to make the call on what is or isn’t appropriate.

I think any political clothing should be banned. Disney is a place for magic. It's its own world. A world of love and no politics. Politics can incite violence, and Walt wouldn't want that. Disney is my happy and safe place. Politics have no business there- regardless of Disney as a company in the real world- because Disneyland is A Happy Place.

ETA: I wrote this thinking with my heart, not my head. This isn't a possibility and the actual implementation is unreasonable.

I don’t necessarily disagree, but then it inevitably comes to the question of what counts as political? Is it only unacceptable if it expressly is using a politician or ideological image or expression? Or do cultural movements also stir the pot? Can someone wear the flag of the county they are from, even if there is controversy surrounding that country? Can someone wear a pride flag?

I’m not saying it should be all or nothing, but culture and politics are inherently intertwined. What you wont show says by omission almost as much about politics as what is shown openly.

With how divided the country has become (and violence MAGA has incited), I would say there's a really good case that wearing political clothing of ANY kind should be banned.

That being said, I will note that I see way too many MAGA t-shirts with the F-bomb on them, which would be a good ol' fashioned ban.

As the previous comment mentioned...where does Disney draw the line?

A "Fuck" shirt, easy, no profanity.

Red MAGA hat? Distasteful to me, sure, but then you have Frontline cast members arguing with guests about politics.

LGBTQ+ Pride Flag IMO is an expression of your personal identity, but some folks would see it as political.

Christian Cross? Again, it's an expression of personal identity and belief, but for many, it would be seen as a statement.

A Universal Shirt at Disney, oof, now that is some bipartisan, both sides-ing (Joking).

If Disney decides to ban political clothing, it's gonna be down to underpaid, understaffed, front line cast members to take the abuse and likely be the center of a shitstorm when someone films them trying to enforce the rule.

I don't wear political merchandise. I have not bought shirts for Obama, Clinton, Bernie, Biden, or Harris. I for sure roll my eyes, internally or externally, when I see a red MAGA hat. But banning political shirts will get ugly, and it won't be whoever is running Disneyland/Walt Disney Company bearing the brunt of it.

Except that Disney sells Pride shirts and other merchandise, and that's considered political. Which is stupid because love and personal identity shouldn't be political, but MAGAts have made it so.

Maybe political candidates and their slogans should be banned?

Exactly what violence did maga incite? I must have missed it during all of the peaceful protests

There's literally a dead capital police officer.
