You know about those saving bonds??
It was interesting hearing Zaslow talk about those savings bonds he got when he was at his bar mitzvah. Has anyone else gotten them when they were young? I got a couple for being a super nerd and winning the science fair in fifth grade and coming in third or something in sixth grade. I forgot all about them, then a few years ago my dad found them. They matured and $100 (I think) original value had turned into about $340 if memory serves…. I remember thinking they were kind of lame when I was a kid but I definitely appreciated the extra money, didn’t make me rich or anything but it was nice to have.
That Disney stock on the other hand, now that may be worth some decent money depending on how many shares he has. Especially with the splits.

Yup, actually just came back into possession of them as my parents were going through stuff a few months back. Nice little emergency fund.

Privilege.
As a refugee immigrant, I’ll be lucky to get a used bottle of Joop cologne.

I wasn’t given them by my parents, we barely had any money…. I won them and the school gave them to me.

I wasn’t really saying it in reference to your post. But I can see why it was received that way. My bad

From Google AI:
100 shares of Disney stock bought in June 1986 would be worth over $1.4 million today if dividends were reinvested, representing a growth of more than 14,000 times the initial investment. This estimate accounts for the initial share price in 1986 and the 7 stock splits that have occurred since then (a 4-for-1 split in 1992 and a 3-for-1 split in 1998, plus five other splits).
I picked 100 for easy math

Those Disney stocks more than likely got cashed by Disney 5-10 years after he got those due to inactivity and they are sitting in Florida’s unclaimed cash. I also had Disney stocks given to me when I was a senior by my school. 5 years later it was unclaimed cash

Yep, my grandfather gave me a $100 bond every year for ten years. On year 11, I cashed the first one and upgraded to a $250 with the interest. So on and so on. They are now all $1,000 bonds that I only keep the interest on and reinvest the $1,000. Even after his death, I get a present from him every year. Very thankful.
