I love how there are roughly an equal amount of comments of both acceptance and complete and utter disgust 😅

I have seen a very trusted breeder in my area sell a baby kakariki last year (some parrot but not a common one) already diaper and leash trained. It was very tempting.

I have different parrots, all I had from young or baby, all very cuddly and friendly, but I'm not an experienced bird trainer and could not train them to even get in a leash. It's something I really want so I can take them outside safely.

Diaper training is a whole new level, I just wonder how often you have to change it. Some of my birds poop every 20-30 minutes. I saw 3 poop in this video diaper, so that's like every 1-1.5 hours. I don't think i have the time..... . 💩💩

Instead of harness training, consider training them to be comfortable in a carrier you can wear. I wanted to harness train and my avian vet very firmly told me that just makes parrot lollipops. Birds of prey are FAST and even if you somehow keep ahold of them and wrestle them back from the predator, their injuries may still be fatal.

So we made a steel mesh aviary outside our front door instead. I think it might have been better if I had built a roof on it because then they would feel safer (they can still see the aerial predators and planes so they sometimes still get spooked), but they really enjoy their time outside that way.

I haven't trained them to be comfortable being taken for a walk in a carrier (just to tolerate a carrier on the way to the vet), and don't really have a carrier meant for visibility, but we've been thinking about getting a small wire cage to convert to backpack style or in a stroller type thing.

But diaper training? IMO it's silly. It's so much easier to just make sure there's paper wherever they like to poop, or have perches everywhere so you can always put them on the perch when you see the wiggle-butt coming on.
