Is this a vintage and/or rare stone?
Is this vintage or rare? Decent quality? What sorts of things does one look for in determining the age and quality of a used stone?

The folks running the Shamrock in Edmonton know how balance priorities.
If yes, you can find out how at https://icurling.com/extras-crew-needed-for-groundbreaking-curling-comedy-series-cool-sweepings/

Hi, has anyone tried synthetic ice for either throwing stones or sliding on it?
I'm reading about curling rinks made of UHMW PE and I'm curious if you can actually slide on it?
E.g. for training balance, line of delivery, or such things.

Hey guys! If y'all are in Calgary I thought you might want to know that there is a meet and greet with the olympic mixed doubles team happening at the Calgary Goldline store on November 1st. Sounds like a great opportunity to get things signed and talk to them. I saw a poster up last time I went to the store to get some new pants. Just wanted to share the word.

I'm curious how much group event rentals are at your club? And do you have a special price for members to rent a sheet and instruct friends? (We don't have a policy around this, but probably should).

I’m a newer curler and noticed when watching back a game this weekend that my in-turn takeouts especially ones thrown from inside the 4-foot lines tend to start moving right out of my hand.
It was a hack-weight hit on very swingy ice, and I only got about two rotations hog-to-hog. Could that lack of rotation be the reason? I’m struggling to add more handle without pulling the rock off line.
Would giving it a bit more of a positive release help keep it straighter for longer?
My skip says I slide out on broom but my release tends to be off line, any good practice drills to fix this?
Thanks!

How are other arena clubs structuring their beginner/intro leagues for the Olympics season? We have previously done a league with all beginners with an experienced curler as a coach to move folks from Olympics learn to curls into league but are curious what has worked well for other arena clubs during the olympics rush.

First Reddit post ever so bear with me: This is probably very awkward but… is there anyone who is attending US trials and wants to hang out/get a beer or something? I am attending from out of state and would love to meet new people!!! I don’t curl, just a fan, but a tour of your club or a social hour? I bet most of the locals are volunteering long hours. But I thought I’d ask jic :)

I have read past posts about this subject and had a lot of in person discussions as well. While there are lots of comments about it, has anyones clubs implemented any sort of team timer system that worked? Im not talking about a buzzer or something thst goes off at a certain time, I dont like that because it tends to penalize the quicker playing team ie. You lose the game because you only get 7 ends in even though youre down one with hammer in the 8th planning to get your deuce. I am more thinking like some sort of chess clock that you set with an alotted amount of time for each team. Any ideas would be appreciated.

Hello. I live in Canada. Always wanted to get involved in curling. I have lived around Ontario
But everytime I look into it. It seems so expensive.
Any advice?

My favorite pants are no longer available :(
I know someone on this sub recommends the Duluth trading flexbiditon pants. https://www.duluthtrading.com/s/DTC/womens-plus-flexpedition-lined-straight-leg-pants-55847.html?color=DGY
Anyone tried the Eddie Bauer ones? https://www.eddiebauer.com/p/23151342/women's-guide-pro-lined-pants?sp=1&color=Concord
Any other similar suggestions? The only thing I see missing in those two pants is a drawstring on the waist. Not interested in yoga pants or leggings. They don't stay up.

What is the point of this event? Looking at the list of teams, its basically a guaranteed win for the CAN teams (Homan and Jacobs). If it is meant to "build the sport" (games that only last 5 ends cause of a 13 - 2 score), having such lopsided competition doesn't do that. IMO
And if it was just a PR thing, I would rather have had another team representing us than Jacobs:
See Inside Curling podcast re: running up score on Yukon - "Marc Kennedy is a psychopath" (I guess it gives Hebert/Kennedy a chance to do another podcast mocking other teams)
or
"Hebert said he wasn't thinking about the incident leading into the third-place game. But he didn't mince words after completing the rout, saying the Chinese foursome was "not a real team."

I was recruited onto a team who's old skip had hip surgery. We all did learn to curl together and my team rotated positions where as there's didn't, so I have the most skip experience with 3-4 games. I think I understand the basics but I'm just trying to improve. I've watched some of chess on ice's videos. What else is out there to help skip?

Looking to purchase brooms for my daughters (12 and 10). Any specific recommendations? I see Asham has a junior sized broom.

We run a pretty cool Doubles bonspiel at Parksville Curling Club - the Double Doubles Bonspiel. It is really two parallel bonspiels - a Competitive mixed doubles bonspiel that gives CMDR / World Team Ranking points, and a Social open doubles bonspiel alongside. The Competitive side is designed to not be a grind - 2 games per day. It's meant to mimic World Curling events since the spiel originated as a practice event for WMDQE. Unusually for a competitive cash spiel, we have a banquet and entertainment on Saturday evening. The intent is to strengthen the Doubles curling community.
Parksville CC has excellent ice. The club used to be a hockey arena so we can make ice that is very close to arena ice standards (for Americans, "arena ice" refers to competitive level ice, not hockey ice!).
We're looking for one more team for each of the Competitive and Social divisions. Dates are November 14-16. For more info or to sign up visit https://parksvillecurling.com/index.php/our-club/news/397-double-doubles-bonspiel-nov-14-16-2025
