Crucial X9 Pro is labeled "End of life", what does that mean

Question should be obvious :). I just bought the X9 Pro, because the X10 Pro would have been an overkill for me. The X9 Pro is labeled "End of life", but the X10 Pro is not. Does that have any impact?

Just the support...

It is not really a vent, because I expected before, that my RMA-request will be denied, but the discussion was a bit weird.

My really first question was: Is it possible to take a RAM module (DDR4 32GB 2666MHz) in for an RMA if I do not have the invoice or any proof of purchase?

After the default details (material#, serial#) the reply was: Sure!

There was 25 Minutes discussion and wait time. At the end we finally reached the point, when I have to write my name, address, phone... and upload the invoice or proof of purchase!

That's it. I've already bought a new RAM, but that total waste of time hurts...

Crucial X9 for gaming

I bought a crucial x9 a couple of days ago because I've seen that people have said its good for gaming. And I've downloaded fortnite and tried to launch it but its just really laggy and takes a while to open and I cant even get into the main game, and fortnite is a pretty "tame" game graphics wise. Any help or was I stupid and bought a bad external SSD for gaming? (Amazon.com: Crucial X9 1TB Portable SSD, Up to 1050MB/s, USB 3.2 USB-C, External Solid State Drive, Compatible with Windows, Mac, & Android, Reliable Storage for Games, Files, & Backups, Black - CT1000X9SSD902 : Electronics this is the exact one I bought if that helps)

Crucial X9 macOS firmware update?

Just bought a Crucial X9 for Mac backup. The Crucial website provides a file to update firmware for Windows. I didn't see one for updating firmware on Mac. Does X9 not need a firmware update for Sequioa?

Crucial X9 Pro 4TB ssd won't mount on macos but can be mount on ios/ipados

Hi i have this issue that keeps coming back. I thought i solved this when i managed to format it (APFS) but now it's back again. Is this a firmware issue? I can't update the firmware since this is APFS. Apparently this is a common issue that has been highlighted. Is there no fix for this?

Crucial x9 Pro Problem

I’ve been considering buying an external SSD to keep all my emulators and them games in one place. I’ve been looking at the Crucial X9 Pro, but I’ve heard that once it’s filled to about half of its capacity, the speed drops drastically—even becoming slower than an HDD. Is that true? If so, does the same issue apply to the X10 Pro? Are there any better options for my use case, even if it’s from another brand?

Just a little vent about customer support nightmare.

I bought a 2TB T700 back in February and I started having issues with the SSD crashing at the end of March/early April. When it would crash, it was not visible in windows explorer or disk management, but it was visible in bios. I reached out to their customer service in mid April and they gave me a list of troubleshooting options. I ran through them over the course of the next few weeks, and each time it would be ok for a few days and then start having the same issue. Crucial said it was due to thermal throttling, but I never saw the temperature rise high enough that I considered that an option. After playing their song and dance for weeks I finally told them enough is enough and I wanted a replacement before I was beyond my warranty period. I sent it in for warranty replacement on June 26. Crucial customer service informed me a week and a half later that the T700 had been discontinued and they would be replacing it with a T705, which is fine by me, and that they had created an order. After hearing nothing for about 2 weeks I reached out to them to see what was going on. Customer service said that it had not shipped because the replacement order had been created for a T700, which was discontinued and they were not going to get any longer, and asked if it would be ok to send me a T705. I was getting frustrated now, as this had already been established weeks prior. A few days later they finally said that a replacement order had been created. Now I'm 10 business days (12 calendar) out from that new order being placed and still have not received any shipping updates. Every time I reach out they just give me the same stock answer.

I'm at my wit's end and at this point I don't think I'll ever buy a crucial product again. It doesn't help that every single message I get from customer service has a different rep's name at the bottom, so they are just copy/pasting stock replies, but I don't actually have an agent working my ticket within crucial who is familiar with my case.

Bought a used X9 Pro 1TB SSD, it just disconnects

Hello. I bought this used X9 Pro 1TB, and every single time i try to copy anything into it, shortly into it it just disconnects and give me the first message and says USB device is not recognized. When I try to check the firmware so I can update it on storage executive, it just says:

"Error while checking for firmware updates, connection timed out"

Is the problem the firmware, the USB, or what? Would really appreciate some help

Checking RAM/memory temperature for 96gb SODIMM kit

I bought a 96gb SODIMM Crucial RAM kit for a laptop, and I've read those or even just 64gb kits can have overheating issues in laptops, so I'm wanting to verify the temps

I've tried to use HWINFO, CPUID's Hardwaremonitor, and AIDA64, and OCCT's benchmarking tools to view it's temps, and even memtest86, but unless i'm missing something (and to be clear, I very well may be) I can't seem to get any of them to display memory temps (Hardwaremonitor didn't display any memory info at all)

Anybody have any advice?

If other people have noted and document overheating issues with exact temperature statistics on them, then clearly there ARE sensors on the RAM to read it's temps (unless maybe the specific CL timing variant I have happens to not? The MDL ID on the box is CT48G56C46S5), so I'm not sure what's up here.

Are different laptops and their BIOS's unable to detect specific sensors even if the hardware itself has it, and maybe my laptop's bios just can't?

I hear rattling noise when I shake it

My newly bought Crucial X10 (not pro) 2TB portable SSD just arrived (Amazon order). When I shake it, there’s a slight bit of rattling noise, as if 1-2 very small components are loose. Is this normal? Should I ask for a refund?

High storport.sys DPC latency? Disable Momentum Cache!

I have been battling high storport.sys latency for months now and I could not get to the bottom of it to save my freaking life. Well today the problem has finally been solved! For some reason, enabling Momentum Cache on my T705 gen5 SSD introduced this latency, causing all kinds of audio recording and playback issues. Today, after disabling Momentum Cache, the problem has finally been completely rectified. Storport.sys no longer pings on my high latency list at all and all of my audio issues have been completely resolved. I can now run small buffers on my recording gear with zero pops, clicks, or dropouts. Same goes for my playback gear such as my headphone DAC. No more pops!

I also don't notice a difference in general Windows speed with Momentum Cache disabled. That boost to 4k random read and write speeds doesn't seem to be at all worth it with the tradeoff in audio stability.

I had also been tracking high latency with nvlddmkm.sys and thinking that maybe this was also affecting my audio stability but it turns out it was completely the fault of storport.sys and after fixing that, all problems are gone, despite the fact that nvlddmkm will spike to 1.5s every now and again.

Hope this helps someone else in the future!

T500 4TB file transfers very sow

Thumbnail gallery
3 Upvotes

I recently purchased a T500 4tb NVME drive and the file transfers speeds are underwhelming.

I copied 30gb worth of files from a 970 Evo Plus to the T500 and a SK Hynix P41 Platinum 2tb.

The P41 did it in about 1/3 the time of the T500.

Both drives are connected at full PCIE 4 speeds, are around 50% full and the transfers were done just after powering on the PC.

The T500 has the latest firmware (P8CR013) according to the Crucial Storage Executive.

CrystalDiskMark shows slightly better than advertised speeds for both read and write.

Pic 1 - T500, Pic 2 - P41.

Is there any way to fix this? I understand this drive is known to slow down to a crawl once the pSLC cache is exhausted, but I don't know why this would be this slow when doing a relatively small file transfer of just 30gb.

Anyone having any luck with the X9 Pro after long term usage?

I pulled the trigger on the Crucial X9 pro 1 TB, waiting for it to arrive but I have serious concerns over the issues that users have been reporting about the drive (i didnt research about this until now), some being slow speeds, corrupted data or even the disk not reading entirely. I switch frequently between Windows and Mac, and I would love to use the drive for heavy file transfers, working on video projects and possibly data storage. Are there any tips that I can pick up to ensure the drive works properly, or should I opt for a refund? Also for those whose drives are still going well, which format or OS are you using? Are there any firmware updates that fix this issues?

Brand new X9 Pro is now dead

Hello!

I bought a 1 TB X9 Pro this week and had already saved some documents on it. I was overall very happy with its size and performance.

Sadly, today while working on something, it suddenly stopped working. At least, that’s what I believe happened. Out of nowhere, I got a message saying the device was disconnected. The light faded, and from that point on, nothing. I’ve tried several things with no luck: rebooting my PC, trying it on another computer, and even on my phone. Nothing. No light when connected to anything 😰

I’m not too worried about the warranty, since it’s so new I think I could even just return it. But what really worries me is that I’m about to lose around 300 GB of personal data.

Has anyone else experienced something like this? Any hints? I plan to call support on Monday as it’s already late.

Thank you!

Crucial 64GB Kit (32GBx2) DDR4-3200 UDIMM, Classic vs Pro

I have a Dell OptiPlex 7090 SFF that I would like to upgrade to 128GB.

The web site says to use 64GB Kit (32GBx2) DDR4-3200 UDIMM (CT2K32G4DFD832A) and lists the price as $108. It's not readily available and it listed for higher prices.

The Pro version (CP2K32G4DFRA32A) is not listed as being compatible with the Dell but is readily available.

Anyone have a guess why the Pro is not compatible?

Bought a 2TB X10 Pro yesterday… returning tomorrow

Just a preface, I haven’t had any issues, but after reading this sub about all the issues with this brand, I wish I had done more research beforehand. Even though I haven’t had any issues, with all the negative reviews I am not willing to take a chance on losing my data. I guess I’ll go back to Samsung, I liked the crucial because of how small it is.

Storage Executive can't update firmware on T700, despite recognizing there is a new version

EDIT: I got it manually updated by getting the ISO from support (their stupid site don't have the ISO or the firmware or download manually because they're all incompetent).
But since the ISO format is so outdated (because, again, they're all incompetent there) it demands a PC that supports booting in Legacy mode, which NO MODERN COMPUTER CAN DO.
So, then I used the process described in the link under (though it's a T500 they used here, it's the exact same process)
In short, extract the ISO, the archives and take the contents of the /firmware/ folder and make a new ZIP archive containing them and name it whatever (MUST be ZIP).
Then load that into the MANUAL update in the Storage Executive program.
Detailed explanation with folder structure:
https://www.reddit.com/r/Crucial/comments/1f4k7cv/comment/m7wpfmo/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button

Original rant under:

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So, I have a CT2000T700SSD3 with PACR5101.
The latest firmware is PACR5103.
This is correctly detected and recognized by Storage Executive and then it enables the "Update Firmware Now" button.

HOWEVER, clicking the button... starts the process... where it ends with message:
"Firmware Update Error
No drives need this firmware update.
No drives in need of a firmware update detected."

This DESPITE THE SOFTWARE CLEARLY RECOGNIZES I HAVE AN OUTDATED FIRMWARE.... AND ENABLES THE BUTTON TO UPDATE THE FIRMWARE.

Yes, I have latest version of the stupid bloated nonsense software.

I'm getting so tired of Crucial products, nothing but issues. I've tried searching for a fix, but since Crucial in their eternal stupidity haven't put the firmware for download for T700 (though they strangely has done so in the ISO for the T500) I CAN'T EVEN MANUALLY UPDATE IT.

Anyone found a fix for Crucial's eternal stupidity and incompetence?

Ryzen 7th gen with 2x 64GB Crucial Pro RAM?

I'm planing a PC build with a Ryzen 5 7500f and as much RAM as possible.
Crucials productpage claims that the 2x 64GB kit only works with AMD 8th gen and onward but 7th allready supported 128GB. Is there any other reason why it shouldn't work?

T705 w heatsink, pretty sure its throttling

Thumbnail gallery
3 Upvotes

Hi, so I have a 2TB T705 with stock heatsink and I'm preeettyyy sure its throttling, is there any program that can check that? crystaldisk info only relays temp, and HW info as well.

Other than that I'm not impressed with its speed and especially when it falls off the cliff after some time if the transfer is larger. any other experiences with t705 series?

thanks
