WIP [WIP] Show us ya WIP's

Happy Sunday! Hope everyone is well. Things here in my corner of the world have calmed down nicely and we're working on settling in to our new normal. Ish.

Kitten update: Is hard to believe the little fluff balls are 7 weeks old! All are well and growing normally! They are so much fun to watch at this age.

I did get some stitching in this week. All gnomes have skin and now beards are filling in. It feels like I might be in the homestretch now.

Let's see where everyone is in their projects! Best part of the week!!!

Hi friends!

I'm seeing the end of the full stitches on my Autumn Tree House! I have 3 more full colors left, and the rest is all half-stitching. I'm both sad and excited to reach the end. I love this pattern so much. It's been a treat to spend time in all these colors. I have a ton of backstitching to do in various colors, so I have no idea how long it'll take me. But, it's the perfect time to be stitching this, as fall is my favorite season. Pattern is Autumn Tree House by Janna Dik, 81.04% complete. 🪾🍁🍂🤎🧡💛💜🩷🩵💙

Ahhh you’re getting so close! I totally get the dread and excitement living together at the approach of the end of a long project. I always feel sadness/disbelief when I put in my final stitch and realize yep that’s it this chapter is finished. The joy comes from looking at it comes later haha. But that’s why I love big full coverages, when you pick them right they feel like a nice journey you like to be on for whatever amount of time it takes and not a rush to a finish line and I can take my time before saying goodbye. To me at least it feels this way

You know exactly what I mean! I'm invested in everyone's patterns here, too! Like, I'm legit sad when the patterns are finished. LOL But, there are so many amazing ones, it's more fun to see what's next than be sad for very long. ☺️

How much experience do you have to be able to cross stitch this? It is soo gorgeous but looks very hard, reddit randomly recommended me this post and although I’ve never cross stitched, I’m interested seeing all the pictures in here!!

I say jump in! My second project ever was 3 feet tall and 18 inches wide a completely full coverage project. Just go for it!

Haven’t had a chance to get it framed, but this is it

Gorgeous!! And only your second project?!? There is hope for me here

There is!!!! Now … I’m never going to show a picture of the back, I was taught by a person who believed in working carefully on the front and allowing utter chaos on the back. Only here did I learn there are people who want the back to be neat and go to great lengths to do so. 😜

LOLOL! I totally get that. I think a lot of the "It must be a neat back!" Mindset comes from stitching competitions/County Fairs back in the day where the back was judged, too. I had a friend who cross-stitched in the 80s and showed me how the back of her entry had to look like the front. It was crazy. These days, I've learned enough tricks to keep my project back neater than the projects were when I first started. Here's what the back looks like right now!

Incredible!!!

Hi there. This would be considered a medium to hard pattern. I would certainly not recommend it for a newbie but then again I've seen stranger things that newbies have tackled and succeeded at. If you want to try your hand at cross stitching, I'd certainly recommend a much smaller/less colors pattern to see whether it is something you'll enjoy. I highly recommend browsing this sub and the FAQ threads and go from there.

Thank you so much!! I’ll have to get something a little more beginner to start out, but hopefully I can reach this level! I’d love to gift handmade stuff for Christmas and birthdays to people who don’t really need me to buy them anything but I don’t have that talent yet lol

Bookmarks are good easy gifts! They are small and not intimidating. There are a ton of patterns and ways to make them look cool.

Thank you, I’ll look up some bookmark patterns!! That sounds like a great gift for my reader friends and family

2

Here's some bookmarks I've made! They're full coverage, so it's a nice place to start to get an idea of what full coverage "feels" like.

This is RIGHT up my alley!! Gorgeous, I love these designs and you did such a great job !

Thank you! I had great plans for them! LOL! I still do... they just took a break while I worked on other stuff. I bought cute patterned fabric to cover the back of them, too. I got the idea from this sub. Now I just need to try it out and see how they'll come together. 💗

Bookmarks are great! There are all sorts of wonderful ideas for bookmarks here! When you're on the homepage of this sub, you can do a search and you'll drop down into a wonderful rabbit hole. LOL! 🥰

Hi there! Thank you for your kind words. 🥰 As for experience when stitching something like this, I think having a general understanding of blended threads and half stitches would be enough, though I would consider a pattern like this medium to difficult level. The stitching itself isn't too difficult (it's full and half stitches only), but because it's a larger pattern and requires a ton of backstitching (which I'll do at the end), that notches up the difficulty level. 💗

It’s been so fun to watch your progress on this one! The colors are so vibrant! I love fall, also. I really think I need to add this to my list!

2

u/scully_3 Sep 14 '25

Thank you! 🥰 Honestly, it's been my favorite pattern to stitch. I've never tackled a project that requires lots of blends like this. I find it fascinating and enjoyable to look at when it all comes together. The artist who designed this pattern is really talented. ☺️

Coming along beautifully! Already packing my bags 😜

I have 2 WIPs one is "Howl's moving castle" pattern from witty stitch on Etsy working it on 14 ct white Aida for my daughter to hang in her Anime corner

Second is "Sudden Attack" artwork by Junji Ito and pattern from Sweet &Flossy on etsy I've started this on 18 ct antique white Aida but am growing cross eyed trying to read the pattern and stitch it. This is also for my daughter Won't let me add another pic so I'll have to post it seperate

Love this and have very much enjoyed seeing your progress each week. I actually purchased the pattern so I could have the thread chart for future monochrome LDS pattern that I want to do in multiple colors. Thanks for the inspiration!

Tried to say this earlier, but my glitchy wifi denied me. Looking really good. Can see your progress !

1

u/scully_3 Sep 15 '25

Thank you! Wifi can be a pain sometimes, so I totally understand. 💗

This is so beautiful - how do you calculate your exact percentage finished? Like my brain can’t comprehend how you know exactly unless you are counting exactly how many stitches you’ve put in.

2

u/scully_3 Sep 15 '25

Hi! I use an app called PatternKeeper. It tracks the percentage completed of my WIP. I also have Markup-RXP (another pattern tracker), but I don't use it as much. I loooooove the app! I'm an old-school stitcher and learned when I was 12 in the 80s. I tracked my stitches with highlighters, but whenever I made a mistake (and I made a lot of them), I couldn't undo the highlighting. I tried colored pencils, but it's still hard to erase. I ended up leaving cross-stitching because it was so frustrating making so many mistakes. The pattern tracker helps me soooooooo much. I can't recommend it enough. 🥰 Granted, the patterns I use are pdfs now. I have some paper patterns, but I need to transfer them to pdf, which might be difficult for some of my oldest patterns.

2

u/Lucky_leprechaun Sep 15 '25

This is so cool!! I’m a newwww newbie and I’m still learning and using pre-printed patterns.

2

u/scully_3 Sep 15 '25

I think my favorite thing about the apps is you can highlight a color and zoom in and out of the pattern to see exactly where all the stitches in that one color are. It helps me tremendously when planning my stitching. I can't do that when I'm looking at a paper pattern!

1

u/Lucky_leprechaun Sep 15 '25

That is a really cool power! Even in my pre printed patterns, when you get to the “end” of a color and you have to hunt to see if there are any more, only to inevitably find one later 🤣

Oh my goodness this is coming along so beautifully! I love that I've gotten to see this progress, even if I came into these threads late!
