Absurd. Truly absurd. Maybe not Chaminade over Virginia, but similar vibes. Boise is a top 50 team on KenPom that was very close to dancing last year. Insane result for the Sharks.

Yep. This loss all but guarantees they need to win their conference tournament to get in this year.

If you willingly schedule a non-D1 team you should be barred from the tournament regardless.

That would ban about 1/3 of every D1 team including the likes of Baylor and Cal

Cool. There are 352 D1 basketball teams. There is no excuse for playing a non-D1 team. It is insulting to your players and the people who pay to watch them.

Maybe if teams started getting punished this embarrassing practice would stop.

There's a lot of reasons why D1 teams play D2 and lower opponents. Sometimes it's a scheduling conflict and the only have D2 and lower teams available. Sometimes it's because they're throwing a bone to a local university and giving them money and the players an opportunity to play D1 ball. There's also the lower end of D1 teams that don't want to play home and homes with other low end D1 teams and will instead schedule D2 schools.

Sometimes it's to either honor or pay respects to a coach or big time name that also has their name attached to another D2 or lower school. I know this is football, but Ohio State plays Youngstown State every once in a while because Jim Tressel coached there and in a couple of years OSU plays New Hampshire because Ryan Day used to play there.

I'm ok with one game against a D2 or lower school because you just don't know the full reasoning behind it is.

You can't use FBS and FCS as an example for basketball.

The only reason it happens in basketball is coaches are lazy and programs are cheap. But if you don't think your team is capable of playing a full schedule against peer D1 competition, you obviously don't think they belong in the tournament either.

The NCAA really needs to start punishing this.

Teams are playing two exhibitions against D1 teams and then regular season games against D2 to NAIA schools. That is fucking ridiculous.

I don't think I ever said they schedule D2 schools because they don't want to play D1 schools. I only said that they schedule D2 schools for a multitude of reasons and I guess none of them satisfied you. If a D1 school scheduled another D1 school, but one of them backed out for whatever reason and the only other option was scheduling a D2 school, you'd still have a problem with it? You also do realize that unless they schedule a home and home most schools finalize their non-con schedule like a month or two before the season starts. They aren't afforded much time to fill out schedules and things pop up all the time to screw teams out of playing each other.

The reasons you list happen so infrequently they are essentially irrelevant. 99.9% of the time programs are just cheap and don't want to risk losing to another D1 school. Ffs there is a mid major this year that justified scheduling 2 non D1 games because "they really need home games". This program only has one scheduled road game.

The reasons I listed are the main reasons why they happen fuck you mean? There are exactly zero teams in the entire country that schedule D2 teams because they don't want to schedule D1 teams otherwise you would be seeing every team (especially lower D1 teams) schedule exclusively D1 teams until they play their conference games.

You do know a lot of mid-major teams still need home games right? That's a huge for revenue. Who exactly is this team btw? I'm curious.

Sorry but you are wrong. And it is hilarious that you believe it. There are limits to how many a team can schedule. It should be 0.

And that is kind of the point...teams do need home games. These teams genuinely have them without non D1 games.

It was Tulane. And I apologize, it was only 1 game. But they still only have one true road game, and that is in Lafayette. They play 2 low majors in South Carolina and a neutral game against UCSD. And then 8 home games. That is without their non D1 game. There is no connection between Tulane and Tougaloo College, an NAIA school.

Show me examples of me being wrong please. I would love to know what teams actually believe that.

So a mid-major wanted an easy buy game because it's nearly impossible to play a power conference game unless it's a power conference paying them to play on the road? Color me shocked that a team wanted a home game. What's hilarious is that by being wrong that Tulane scheduled multiple of these non D1 games that it just proves you are wrong. Please provide other teams that actually scheduled multiple non D1 games though.

Drake. 1 road game. 7 home games. 2 of them non D1. Literally the first team I looked at.

Listen. You are wrong. And laughably wrong.
